currently trying to finish castle sol but that boss fight is fucking horrendous. feel like a fat hard-on bearer and his two friends shouldn't be one of the worst fights in the game but here we are

i've hit a point where i no longer care about soloing bosses, the difficulty of some of these guys is so high that i don't feel like grinding a few hours anymore.

i booked it through the mountains to the fire giant and summoned alexander and he fucking crushed it, most helpful npc summon i've ever used

yeah it's apparently mandatory, the fight is literally unwinnable solo. this is honest to god the dumbest fight in the entire history of the series and nothing else comes remotely close

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?

i actually don't like a lot of the bosses in this game, the balancing is all over the place i think. i tried to co-op the fire giant with a full group but we kept struggling, the summons were decent too. but i try it by myself + npc summon and it takes two tries.

i don't feel particularly strong at the end of the game, you know what i mean. i feel like i'm struggling just as bad at the end as i was at the beginning.

yeah, i'm finding in the late game if you don't go with a build that's busted in some very specific way, you're at a huge disadvantage. all-rounder with bloodhound fang carried me comfortably through the capital but it falls off a cliff after that. i finally caved and respecced to an int build and the difference in power is fucking absurd.

i'm partway through haligtree and also up to fire giant and both of those things are very difficult so i'm doing more random exploring

feel kinda bad going to the moonveil crutch like everyone else but you can't thrive in these areas without having something very dumb

i've developed a bad habit of just running through zones really fast instead of clearing everything slowly. accidentally found a major boss while exploring mountain tops, also needed co-op help for it :homework:

yeah you can mostly do that. progress is only recorded for the host so you'd have to do multiple boss runs to progress each player. on the plus side you'd have a near-infinite supply of rune arcs

i'm honestly not sure how i feel about elden ring. i think i enjoyed the exploration more than anything but the balancing felt all over the place and i didn't find myself enjoying boss fights the way i used to. my issues with the bosses really annoyed me, it felt like the classic sword and board build is not cut out for this game.

jeez i’ve got like 50 hours on you and feel like i haven’t even scratched the surface. i hear you on the balancing though, strict physical melee builds really struggle in this game and make summons, ashes and co-op more or less mandatory in major fights. which i suppose isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but as someone accustomed to playing the rest of the series strictly solo using those builds, it still feels a bit dirty.

fire giant isn't so bad, second half can get a little hairy but i beat him my second time getting to phase 2.

malenia though is seriously a stupid fucking fight. 2 full health bars, massive autoheal, a guaranteed kill move that can't be interacted with at all (if she uses it and targets you, it kills the run with no exceptions - the object of the fight is to repeatedly do it until you get lucky and this doesn't happen), and a hard HP check at the start of stage 2. good thing i started dumping tons of levels into vigor i guess!

my fellating lover played with me on the fire giant the few attempts i had at it and tomorrow i will go back in solo, think i can do better on my own with the horse.

not sure how to get to malenia though

she is at the end of the haligtree, gotta take the secret lift up to consecrated snowfield and then do the puzzle in the town up north.

for fire giant though i only used the horse for the initial approach, didn't find him to be too useful in the fight itself. if you just chip away at his one ankle he takes a fuckload of damage, he's got a massive health bar but it melts quick

i would assume so yeah. i have the frostbite rapier but i've never really used it because nothing ever seems vulnerable to frostbite. i just moonveiled his ass and between the magic damage and bleed procs he got fucked up

truly, fuck malenia. this fight has basically soured me on the entire game. it's all i have left to do before i push through to properly beat it and i'm not sure i'm going to bother with any of it at this point. it is the worst-designed fight not just of the entire series, but of probably any game i have played in my entire life.

tiche is the best summon by far because she dodges and gets a lot of interrupts due to malenia's low poise, unfortunately it's not possible to actually beat the fight
