ds3 was fantastic because it incorporated like 25% of bloodborne's speed boost. ds2 was awful

sekiro is amazing for different reasons but also i still haven't actually beaten it. i got hung up on the owl and never had the patience to work that one out

ever play any of the dark souls games vahmparino?

the first dark souls is one of the best games i've ever played. it's very old school. the game basically says "here's a sword, good luck" and that's it, no stupid waypoints or quest lists, no hand holding whatsoever.

Ok that sounds interesting.

I really dislike most modern games. It's all catered to todays culture where it all feels like an entire tutorial.

I do like this new game that was just released called Exo One.

dark souls is decidedly modern in some ways, in that it employs the typical RPG mechanical hooks to suck you in

but it very deliberately eschews all the handholding aspects of actually teaching you combat or exploration or really anything actually important

it's amazing

thinking about going confessor, but the more likely final choice will be generic melee build #500 :redneck: whatchu doing?

this game is fucking amazing. spent close to 9 hours in co-op with a fellating lover today, only just pried myself away like 15 minutes ago :redneck:

i have a couple characters but 90% of my playtime has gone into samurai. early game is fucking fruital since you have to rely on a target shield, this game does not fuck around. eventually found a heater and hit my stride but i was struggling before that.

Confessor here. Haven't spent much time on it yet. Got owned by the mangled old codger at the castle gates a few times and then went exploring to get some levels in.

i haven't played as much as i thought i would but i'm about 20 hours in with a vagabond using the lordsworn's greatsword. the game is great so far, the open world exploration works really well with the dark souls game play. i'm really enjoying just exploring and finding weird shit.

the cynic in me doesn't like the asset reuse but it's perfectly fine, i wish they had gone full bloodborne style and not reused any weapons/references from dark souls but again it's totally fine. other than that i don't have anything negative to say about it.

i figure it probably had to be a production/budget constraint. all new assets would've drastically increased the cost to make the game and probably delay the release schedule by an amount they weren't willing to stomach. i def agree it would've been nice to see everything fresh, but i can live with some recycling. what i've seen of the game so far is truly exceptional

Been trying to kill Godrick last night. Will attempt again later after work. I still need to get familiar with his attacks which are quite easy to evade sometimes.

i used the npc and wolves summon on godrick like a scrub, they both died before the second phase but it helped me rush the first phase :redneck: i hate his second phase, those flame attacks suuuuuck

i imagine godrick is probably a lot more manageable in a solo fight if you're a caster. it is a tough melee fight. i did it co-op and it's a lot less stressful when you can bounce hate back and forth. not a ton of openings otherwise.

I find Godrick's attack pattern to be more manageable as a melee player. Staying far away from him will only make him use his ranged attacks.

I hate his fire attacks on the second phase. :homework: Or I'll probably need to level up more. I'm currently level 41 and I'm slowly starting to realise that I have less mind and endurance points than I should have for my build.

yeah high END can make the fight a bit more manageable, if you have a 100% phys reduction shield you can tank most of his combos with enough stamina. i believe there's one string in phase 2 however that is a guaranteed death if you block the first hit (maybe there's enough time to roll out between hits? never tried but i think you're in blockstun the whole time), it guardbreaks and the final hit does a fuckload of damage. i guess if you've gone really hog wild on exploration and doing stuff out of sequence you might be able to get enough mitigation to not die

i'm like SL66-67 and i've put a bunch of points into int/mnd/arc just for expanded weapon access and a few utility incantations, haven't touched mnd though. other than that i think i'm 20vit/20end/24str/24dex

Not there yet but yes I'm currently in Lunaria. Took a bit of a detour and had to down the Magma Wyrm in the Gael Tunnels first to get the Moonveil Katana which is essential to my build.

have you made it into the raya lucaria academy?

i spent like 6 or 7 hours the other night doing the quest line for ranni the witch. had to look up a few things cause i got absolutely stuck. had to do radahn as part of that. i got him in two or three tries, i summoned everyone i could though so it felt cheesy.

i made it to the capital yesterday and god damn everything leading up to that and what little bit i've explored has been hard as fuck :homework:

ranni was bugged for me, she didn't show up at all until after i beat radhan

i got stuck on him for a while so i did a bunch of exploring, wound up clearing out most of the capital which netted me the somber stone i was missing to clear the path for upgrading the fang to +9. i stomped radhan pretty badly when i returned, got a stance break just before phase change and then a bleed proc, he touched down with like 20% HP remaining :redneck:
