My Terrier has Kennel Cough

Post by Noyka »

Can’t call the vet until the morning. My terrier is a 12 year old pet but Im very worried about my service dog.

I had no idea they could get it with the vaccine. It does reduce the risk of pneumonia and serious symptoms as well as reduce infectious shedding apparently. I will def ask the regular vet tomorrow because I am confused.

Hopefully learning that they can still get it helps other pet owners be more aware.

Infection it causes a honking like cough, very distinctive.

Can be caused by different bacteria and viruses. Typically bordetela which us a required vaccine in the US.

She will be fine just got a cough suppressant

She was at a kennel so one of two things happened either a dog was asymptomatic and let in or they do not clean cery well.

I am concerned my other dog, my service dog, will get it. Two weeks is a long time to not properly work a working dog.
