hobbies you're interested in but never tried

Post by zim »

any of yinz interested in some hobby stuff but never gave it a shot?

i briefly did some carpentry with my guitar body but it didn't last very long. loved it though, would really like to dig into carpentry as a long term hobby. also think it would be cool to build a car from scratch, my grandpa has done this his whole life but i barely know how to open the hood :redneck:

those restoration youtube channels are awesome... something like that would be cool, if I'd have all the tools and machinery for it.

Wood working and thrift flipping its a space issue

Oil painting because space and not safe with animals and brother. Acrylic is non toxic and a lot cheaper.

my mom picked up painting a few years ago and is actually quite good - I have a few of her paintings hanging up in the house. always wanted to try my hand at it but would definitely need to invest in some classes.

No you don’t tons of great youtube tutorials def help me to not look like an amateur even though I 100% am. Acrylic is great for beginners but its quick dry time is intimidating. My advice start with arteza (its affordable) because the super cheap stuff is watery and you will hate it because its hard to work with. You have to add thickeners and turn it into chalk paint basically, not beginner friendly.

Water color is actually easier for most but i just dont like it. I find it less forgiving but admire the more fluid look. I cannot give brand recs as I am less than a novice here. I am partial to acrylic in its defense so please don’t solely juste on what I say.

I know fuck all about oil paints other than you need paint stripper to clean brushes and they are a bit pricier typically.

What I really love is dollar tree has canvases which is great for beginners. I like painting on wood rounds which you can find for discounted prices at craft stores. I will warn you it can be expensive finding what you prefer regardless if medium in painting.

I wanted to grow a small amount of marijuana (maybe 15 years ago) for myself and found the craft and detail that goes into it to be interesting, but I was ultimately too concerned about the grow lights causing a fire or something. At the time I was living in a very old building with kind of sketchy circuitry. Apparently LED lighting makes that part of it less of a problem these days, but I don't really have a desire for THC anymore so I put an end to that scheme before it ever got off the ground.

i don't know that i'd make a clothing line at all so to speak, probably just weird avant-garde and costume clothing for my own entertainment. the only practical item i want to make right now would be ripoffs of the rick owens short level tees, i love them to death but they're too expensive to amass in the way i'd like

Cricut is not exactly cheap but pretty much any tee with word art you can dupe using it with practice. Complex Images are a bit trickier and require graphic design skill as well as stencils or other techniques you might as well just buy the shirt honestly unless its just your passion to do.

Cricut is most well known for tee shirts and cawfee mugs. People love their vinyl, htv, and iron on shit. Its not something normal folks think about is why i bring it up. There are other vinyl cutting machines that might be cheaper im just not familiar with how well they work.

oh they aren't printed or graphic tees at all, just basics with a very particular set of proportions and construction that i adore. nobody else on earth really makes anything exactly like it so i'm always stuck waiting for them to hit clearance and hoping my sizes survive until they get cheap enough to stomach

If all else fails I could live on the streets and still make some money.

Might be relaxing as you need complete focus on those balls :bulb:

I did clown ministry in highschool and college juggling, balloon animals, and face painting.

I sucked at juggling but was the best with balloon animals

No we did not dress up like clowns. It was more entertain kids in the community and provide outreach for free.
