Mortal Kombat: Rebirth
FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!

This is probably not a teaser for a movie, but a one of the actress on that "film" said this;
"Actress Jeri Ryan, seen in the short playing Sonya Blade, offered further comment about the project on Twitter. "It's not a game trailer," Ryan said. "Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film." She said she had "No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was.""

Re: Mortal Kombat: Rebirth
It seems like a good idea, but I'm not sure they'll be able to flesh it out into a whole movie. As it stands this is like that Batman vs Alien fanfilm except it's got professional bra-buster Jeri Ryan in it.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Rebirth
I am all over this. There is plenty of room in the world for Mortal Kombat. The recent games have been nigh unplayable. Here's what I want for a new game:
-Let me press back to block. I'm looking at you too, Soul Calibur.
-One move set. I don't want two styles plus a weapon. No weapons, either.
-Continue to let me decapitate masturbated crackers.

in soul calibur's defense, they actually had mechanical reasons to go with a dedicated block button. with guard impact/just impact, you could control the direction you'd send your opponent in if you successfully clashed. i'm sure it's still possible to do without a dedicated guard button, but to me it seems like it'd be easiest to implement that system with the existing control scheme.
i can't remember any of the MK games i've ever played having any real blocking mechanics outside of high/low though, so i'm kind of bewildered as to why they've held onto that all these years.

Eventually you could do a "guard impact" whilst getting beaten over the head to break the combo, like Killer Instinct. Only it was really easy to do.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Rebirth
Idea i think is cool, but it should be used with original characters and such, the mortal kombat mythos are so well established, it would very odd seeing such a different take on the franchise.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Rebirth
It's odd that Jaxx and Sonya are just mere city cops though whereas in the original story they're Special Forces or something like that.

That's fixed as easily as saying "We're putting together a new task force and we want you two to head it up" though. Jax gets his arms cut off and replaced with metal ones, Jeri Ryan tests the tensile strength of spandex, everyone wins.

That is a Mortal Kombat game I can get behind, even if Jeri Ryan won't be in front.

Leave the 3D fighters to Soul Calibur and Tekken. Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter were 2D trailblazers, and should stay in their lane.

That movie looks pretty cool, as long as they de-fuckulate the Baracka character. He needs to be bald, if nothing else; the dreads are fucking stupid. Also, the Jaxx character needs to over-act less. Jeri Ryan, hot or not, is too old to be Sonya too. The thing with having Reptile as a serial killer with harlequin ichthyosis is

Virtua Fighter series >>>>>>>>>>> the flying FUCK out of all 3D fighters, in fact I'd say all fighters since I don't care for the 2D type. All the characters have intricately different fighting styles and knowing all the moves and when and where to use them makes the game very satisfying.
I am/was fucking unbeatable with Kage in the original VF and VF3.
