Re: Post your workplace
Whatever word applies, my employment was terminated due to a drop in revenues. I posted about this the day this happened on the board.
They laid off about 15% of employees. The termination letter stated that this was a "covid-19 impact". This went down as follows.
I received a call from my supervisors with HR on the line, they said this had nothing to do with my performance, the company was fiscally tightening up the belt, I would be getting a severance amount, and that they would terminate my work accounts immediately at the end of the call. Which they did; they closed down my email, work chat, etc immediately, so I had to type a good bye to a workplace colleague during the termination call because I wouldn't get a chance afterwards (I got his phone number later). I was given a date and time by which I had to ship my laptop and equipment back. It was about as swift, efficient and cold-blooded you can get.
I imagine if we weren't all working from home because of a pandemic, it would have been like one of those scenes from Margin Call where you don't even get a chance to wrap-finish things up, they would have just escorted me out immediately. Well, for that matter if the pandemic wasn't around I would still have my job, but whatever.

i have a ducky mechanical keyboard and i love it
no matter the brand though, the whole TKL trend is extremely cursed. can't understand crippling your input options like that. curtailing your rapid numerical/arithmetic input capability is a sucker's game. always has been and always will be

I've had a 100% Filco for a few years now and have been happy with it, should be good for awhile and it's really easy to clean

Re: Post your workplace
in a lot of places if you're laid off you qualify for unemployment since you were let go at no fault of your own.
if you're fired it was with cause and you don't qualify for unemployment (again, might differ in some places).
in other words
laid off = company let go of a lot of people to save money (for whatever reason)
fired = your dumb ass did something that turned you into a liability that is not protected by law
