Some time ago Rutan said:
"We have all decided to go for a more natural and organic drum sound for the new album so we spent some time carving out the tones and the drums sound amazing!"
I hope so because like Void said about Heretic:
way too digital for my taste.
but soon we see... In my opinion Formulas have the best drum sound.

Re: I
i think they just got a brilliant sound on every record... sure there are pro's and con's and the thing with heretic is just a matter of taste imo they wanted it this way and i think this kind of sound fits very good with the atmosphere of riffing and stuff going on there.. another thing is when your listen to altars for e.g the first press on vinyl you can hear everything very clearly.. they already did a great job back then imo..
for "i" i hope the sound will just fit the music and vibes going on and i hope for well balanced drumms because most stuff done by rutan ends up with a way to much bassdrum in the front imo

Re: I
sworn rant
I am not expecting this album to be a masterpiece but it seems you expect way too much,no offence of coarse. Most will agree the D album sounded pretty horrible compared to the previous albums also.Comparing Ozzy,Slayer to MA is alittle odd.I would like to think MA are 10X more creative when it comes to writing songs.Maybe you are right though, this album might be shit and they will just continue the "classic tour" route after it.(i doubt it)

Are you talking about his lead tone? Because he only used the harmonizer on very few leads.
Both rhythm and lead tones on "D" I feel are his best, but yes, especially his lead tone. Listen to 'Hatework' here at 5:10. Can you possibly have a better lead tone than that?

Obviously, tone, like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this is tone is like Adriana Lima for the ears.

Well perhaps my standards are fairly critical, but it honestly sucks when you see your favorite artists begin to fade musically... I understand that there are always going to be ups and downs. For example, I think that "Blessed" was almost as bad of an album as "Heretic", but then they came out with "Covenant" and "Domination" which are, in my opinion, their best records. (as an aside I rank their albums: C,D,A,G,F,B,H) So, maybe after being in such a slump with "Heretic", and with all the issues with Steve coming to a head, going back fresh to the studio with David might be like "C" and "D" were following "B".
I only brought in other metal bands for the sake of rhetoric. But, as for Ozzy, "Blizzard" and "Diary" are pure masterpieces--thanks to Randy though, likely not much creativity there from Ozzy. Slayer, imo, are beating a dead horse and need to stop. Kerry King has become such a merchandising whore, and Slayer has began to be like Kiss was in the 70s with lunchboxes and BS like that (they make Slayer sneakers, ashtrays, cawfee mugs, etc,.... c'mon already).
I do have my fingers crossed for "I", but my faith in them is pretty low.
I honestly expect a pretty crappy album. How often are bands' 7th album real good?
Example of 7ths":
Black Sabbath: Technical Ecstasy
Metallica: ReLoad
Ozzy Osbourne: Ozzmosis
Iron Maiden: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Slayer: Undisputed Attitude
Megadeth: Cryptic Writings
Motley Crue: Generation Swine
There are very few artists that actually make better music as they expand their catalog. In fact, I think that they only band that has every continually made better albums than the one prior was The Beatles. Pink Floyd perhaps too, since Dark Side of the Moon was number 8 for them.
...but bottom line: this album is most likely going to really suck.
ok, except this will be their ninth album. well, eighth if you dont count entangled.
No, I didn't know that...
but....I'm pretty sure that the tone there consists of a harmonizer.... if not, what then do you suspect are the effects to produce that sound?

There are more devices that do pitch shifting. Erik used both rack effects and pedals. He never had a eventide. And he used the same tone with Alas and hate eternal. He had a Boss Pitch shifter when he rehearsed at our place. A lot of his leads are played twice to get the harmony going.

Re: I
In Poland itself, yes.
Worldwide, I don't believe it.
Their re-releases are cheap 1-panel digipacks with sometimes even spellingmistakes on them and cheap looking scanned artwork.
I still hope they'll re-release sold-out underground gems though.
I'm not certain it was Metal Mind, but on the metal market at Wacken in 2008 I even saw Morbid Angel re-releases with 1,5 album on it, with the second half of the album on another 1,5 album.
