I think they stand their own even without vocals most of the time.
That's what Trey said in one interview, that he tries to write songs that are enjoyable even without vox.
My dream would be a Gateways instrumental version
Do you listen the instrumental version of Heretic songs, and Complete Acid Terror, the instru. version of Kingdoms?
What do you think? Are instrumental death metal songs boring in general, and you need some growling, even if it's mediocre with BS lyrics?
Do you like MA songs instrumental version? (Heretic, Complete Acid Terror)

i really enjoy the instrumental version of nearly any song. though most songs are constructed with vocals in mind so it can make them a little boring to listen to instrumentally. instrumental death metal done right can be awesome, cannibal corpse have a couple that are great

Yes, those are killer songs, I know them.
This isn't "pure" death metal, but still slaps:
Hopefully in the near future I will have a little surprise for you guys

The latest Hate Eternal was also released as instrumental. It's awesome.

The ones in Love of Lava and Heretic are the ones I enjoy the most. "CAT" not so much, because they're not my favorite songs from "Kingdoms"

IMy choice would have to be the instrumental version of the Heretic songs. It was probably the most polyrhythmic stuff Trey had written thusfar, so it was cool to actually hear what all the different guitars were doing without the vocals interfering.
The final versions with vocals were better of course, but it was a nice bonus for the fans. And it was available on the day of release, so it was no record label rip off either. As opposed to Love Of Lava and Complete Acid Terror, which made most fans buy the album twice afterwards .
