Thy Kingdom Come 7"

Post by Desoppus »

Hey, I bought that vinyl and I´m wondering is it real or some bootleg, maybe you can help me.

http://img217.imageshack.us/f/dscn0604t.jpg/

As you can see there isn´t any number on back cover. Vinyl is black, no any text on there.

Catalogy number is SMR 1-66, OTD 2 1/2. So have you any info about that?

Some back info on the original:

MORBID ANGEL- Thy kingdom come 7″ (Splattermaniac / Off The Disk Records, Switzerland, 1988)

When Thomas M., a fellating lover of his (Roman) and I tripped through the USA in summer of 86, I met a lot of bands and people. One of the bands we came in contact with was a group everybody was talking about in Florida: MORBID ANGEL. I don’t remember how it went, but we were invited to see them play a private gig for the three of us in their rehearsal space (which was actually a house, somewhere in southern Florida). This took place immediately after they had recorded what was at the time supposed to be their debut LP, but didn’t see the light of day ntil years later (“Abominations of Desolation” – the bands later bassist David Vincent originally planned to release this on his “label”, along with the also never-released debut 12″ by MASSACRE). We were quite impressed, especially by the bands original drummer who was also the singer. I had recorded that session and I’ve seen it floating around in tradelists in the past.

After we went home, I stayed in touch with Trey who is actually a very nice and gentle bloke. He kept sending me rehearsal- and demotapes of MORBID ANGEL and when the three track demo “Thy Kingdom come” came out, he asked me how I felt about releasing two of the three songs on a 7″. That’s how the first MORBID ANGEL record came about to be a super limited release – ca. 680 copies (numbered throughout 666, ca. 100 on white vinyl and a dozen on grey vinyl). It’s been heavily bootleged since. As always, Thomas handled the distribution of the disk, and I got my share of a handful of copies …

I still like this 7″ for its urgency and power. Take the imagery for what it is – image – and there’s no reason not to enjoy this smasher!

in the comments on this blog there is extra info to be found on different color inserts etc.:

Hi!

Here are Scans of the original Splattermaniac Records Labels and the included Sheet! (I also mentioned the A&B Matrix numbers!) - the Original Singles are all handnumbered .../666 and actually came with the 3rd Issue of the MEGAWIMP Fanzine (I've posted a pic of that one in the C.O.D. thread!)- Cheers...Foxi

I came into possession of this over the weekend. I think it is a bootleg. The cover also is not sealed, it is like a large paper folded in half and slick.

I was told it was a "Fan edition" that was sent to COD members years back but undsure if it is true. Any info members can provide?

Glad it have in my collection nonetheless.

I have been following that one also, but I am not as certain and hesitant to spend that much on uncertainty.

I just bought it: I think it's the real thing since Uni's link mentiones 100 white vinyl prints.

Beware though: there is also a remastered reprint floating around from an 'Off the disc' boxset that looks just like Foxi's scans.
