jesus, reading all of these comments on how bad the new Baroness album is making me not wanting to bother checking it out.





Out of sheer curiosity, if you have to rank it in between Opeth's Heritage, M.A.'s IDI, or lulu, how bad is this?

this has some enjoyable moments, as long as you immediately dispose of the second CD. so it's not as bad as those other things, but it's still pretty bad. it's a four or five out of ten, where the others are all probably ones or twos (i only know IDI out of those, but what i know of opeth and lulu leads me to assume they are utterly abysmal).

It is no where near the IDI/lulu phase. The production and a fair portion of the music is pretty good. Its just too long and there's no payoff for all the sick sick filler you have to sit through.

you are literally the only person on this board that is attempting to defend the album, so it doesn't really make any sense at all to make that comment here

i'm actually not attempting to defend it at all. you assume that because i'm the only person who hasn't said he doesn't like it even a little bit. all i've said is that everyone else is jumping to conclusions and that i will listen to it many, many times before making a judgment. in fact, this is the only concrete thing i've said about yellow and green:

while i reserve my usual 451 further listens (per jorsh) before rendering an initial verdict, i will say this: maybe it's just the streaming audio, and the proper discs will remedy this, but it sounds very thin. super duper thin, as a matter of fact. like, there's live footage of them playing march of the sea that's loud and driving and great, but the album version robs what is a really urgent rhythm of a lot of its force.

on the other hand, you overreact so quickly and strongly that i wish you could transfer those skills to sprinting, so we could all watch you decimate your opponents at the london olympics

Dusto is like a judge trying to uphold the 'innocent until proven guilty before a court of law' stance even though the entire village has just witnessed the bloody, gory truth first hand.
