Promising bands that just kind of fell off the map

The bottom two of the ones I have in mind established themselves, broke up, and then got back together without doing much more than a few live shows. The ones that come to mind for me are:

Crimson Massacre
Miasma (Austria) - would have been cool to see live
Demigod (played a few festivals and Esa claimed a new album in the vein of the debut was in the works but nothing ever happened)

necrophagist is the only one i can think of - word on the street is that he's an engineer for BMW or something so i kind of don't blame him for moving on. wish there was an update though

I thought of another one - CYNIC

Amazing musicians and songwriters - Focus was a ground breaking album in the early 90's - they kind of fell off the map soon after that. though to be fair they (Sean and Paul) were involved with Death for a bit. Traced in Air was a really good come back album but not really as incredible as Focus. they put out one more in 2014 (Kindly Bent to Free Us) and it is fairly mediocre. so yeah, I'd say they fell off the map. Sean Reinert left the band in 2015 so I don't really know what the future holds for them.

Paul and Sean definitely did some great session work while they were trying to get Cynic off the ground. Paul's leads on Master's second album are often overlooked.

As far as Cynic goes, I've always felt that Gordian Knot was a solid continuation of where they seemed to be headed, even though it wasn't the explicit purpose of that group. Same thing kind of goes for Aghora's debut album. There's also Portal, but that was so limp wristed it's kind of hard not to ignore.

I'm tempted to bring up Demilich, but Antti has done such an awesome job of keeping up with touring while not destroying the reputation of the band that the way I see it they may as well be an active band that happens to have one hell of a live set list. Unfortunately I still haven't been to one of their shows

Paradise Lost is a band that could fall under this thread matter.
The buzz around this band in the early/mid gloryhole era was insane, and granted they were making great records back then. “The next Metallica!!” was a common headline in music media.
Then they went ahead and committed the grandest career suicide ever (Host :ickface:

) and everything went to shit.
They’ve released a bunch of albums since then and are still playing but probably only to a few hundred folks at best

Yeah, a few people I work with who aren’t even into extreme metal but were metal heads back in the gloryhole era have mentioned Paradise Lost and how they lost interest in them in the late gloryhole era . Apparently they were well known even in the states for a time.

Though I do dig what Nick Holmes is doing with Bloodbath now.
