still love it, but it doesn't quite hit the way it once did. lately i find myself listening to a lot of alice in chains, mastadon, nothing, shoegaze, etc

i didn't used to understand growing out of metal but as every year goes by i get it more and more

my music tastes have expanded since the metal-exclusive years of 2000-2006

but metal and rock are definitely the genres i listen to the most and always will be i guess, if the last 20 years are anything to go by

metal also led me to appreciate a lot of other music genres in different ways, and i will never be able to repay that debt

This goes for a lot of the extreme stuff, I do still keep up with most of the bands I've come to enjoy over the years. For me personally though a lot of the new bands just seem so bland in comparison to the albums we all cut our teeth on.

pretty much this. I also listen to a lot of other genres that I don't think I would have ever grown to appreciate had it not been for metal.

still, extreme metal is probably like 75% of what I listen to.

this is absolutely #1 all time for me

not sure about the rest, i know gateways and bloodthirst would both be on there because they were my first ma and corpse and blew my eyes all the way open

but nsv is the peak and nothing else comes close

Maybe

All 5 of those albums are straight up nostalgia jams for me. So I don't know that they'd all stay in after I put in some serious thoughts to this. I just kinda pulled those off the tip of my head.

For sure though severed savoir's brutality is law is a severely underrated album and damn near might make the list for me.

The real reason that you all aren't as interested in death metal these days is the complete absence of good new death metal.

While I don't listen death metal the way I used to, and have gotten more into experimental music and hybrid styles, there's still some very good newer death metal out there.

Ulcerate, Tomb Mold, Blood Incantation, Bedsore, Afterbirth, Black Curse, Cryptic Shift, Sempiternal Dusk and more.

What I avoid listening are the older bands pushing out drab music.

I still listen to it a lot although I'm mainly interested in the old-school, Florida-style and/or the 'Disgorge-style' BDM variant more than anything. (and suddenly, I remembered smelly :eyes: )

Nowadays it's just the pure shit. I'd rather listen to a band described as a straight-up Morbid Angel/Cannibal Corpse clone rather than a band that's trying to be experimental and shit.
