MORBID ANGEL UNVEILS COVER ARTWORK

Post by vO)))id »

Seminally influential Extreme Metal act MORBID ANGEL have set "Illud Divinum Insanus" as the title of their eagerly awaited forthcoming album, which has been scheduled for a June 6th release (one day later in North America). "Illud Divinum Insanus" will be MORBID ANGEL's eighth studio album, and the first since legendary frontman David Vincent rejoined the fold. Here is the cover artwork of this new opus, designed by Gustavo Sazes:

Image

The artist stated: “To create this cover we worked from several references, ideas, elements, and I would say a ''world'' of options and paths. After a long brainstorming period and some [good and bad] ideas left behind we came up with the concept of this organic surreal insane being; a fallen God or a weird mirror image of our own madness. It is a different Morbid Angel cover for sure, but I think that's how Morbid Angel is...Deviant and different on each new release. They never repeat themselves. They are always pushing the boundaries and setting new standards. I'm really proud of the final results and hope the fans appreciate my work, while listening to the new album!”

Prior to the release of the album, a single for the song “Nevermore” will be out on May 16th as 7” vinyl and digital download. The B side is an exclusive version of new song “Destructos VS the Earth”, remixed by COMBICHRIST.

“Of all the remixes I’ve been asked to do I never expected one of the world’s most notorious death metal bands to have an interest in hearing their music on the dance floor”, COMBICHRIST mainman Andy LaPlegua comments. “However, ‘Destructos’ is one of those tracks that are so versatile that it could have been recorded as a folk song and it would still sound amazing. I’m honored to be a part of this project and am excited to see how the Morbid Angel fans react to this unusual new direction.”

The cover artwork for the single was designed by French artists Valnoir and Fursy Teyssier for Metastazis:

It's indeed very different and completely not what I expected. I think it looks pretty cool  it still has to sink in a little.

The cover art for the EP is imo better.

I'm on the fence. I'll think about this cover for the day.

Destructos? An electronic remix of Destructos? Destructos as techno?

OMGZ!

TECHNO DESTRUCTO

So wait the full title of that song is Destructos VS the Earth? That kind of sounds more like a GWAR song title. I maintain my prediction of a Techno Destructo gues spot :redneck:

Here's a happy point: neither of the covers are by that Vadim dude.

Hence my relief and positive comment.

Anyway, it needs more time to grow on me. I know it should be different from past covers, and maybe has a little Covenant feel to it due to the coloring, but Im not sure yet. The EP is indeed very cool

Thats actually a pretty cool context to see it. I like it a lot. From how i interpret the single, it looks like a digipack with goldleaf for the highlights.

I think the EP's cover has some kind of Laibach-vibe to it (late 80's-early 90's). Really like it.

The colouring on the album's cover is great too. As Void said, it also reminds me of 'Covenant'.

IMO their best is Formulas. It's got such great detail and vibe... everything about it is just perfect.

I can't say Blessed because Mr Jean Delville was responsible for that painting.

I'm curious to see what the booklet will look like and the rest of the case.

i dunno, only thing here that really reminds me of VV is the logo rendering. at first glance, the actual artwork itself is rather reminiscent of dave mckean's style during the mid-90's. he did a lot of cover artwork for DC/vertigo comics including i think, all of the sandman series, as well as various album covers -- skinny puppy's brap, and a bunch of front line assembly's albums as well. honestly, it's not VV so i'm happy.

i think i also like the 7" cover more.

And Skorpionpasta is right, it looks like something Behemoth would do.

Ooooooh, that's BINGO!!! :colonelhanslanda: :gay:

But seriously, I freel like this album is going to be a lot more polished like recent Behemoth, rather than raw like MA used to be. I imagine David's vocals will be evil sounding, but not overly impressive. The guitars will be slightly overproduced, but not objectionable.

That's because it consists of a photograph.

But I agree, after watching it a while I must say that it doesn't really feel like a Morbid Angel cover. Especially if you compare it to the rest of their catalogue.

Although it's not badly executed, it still doesn't feel completely right. Perhaps that will change when I actually have it in my hands and can see and feel how it's supposed to fit the overall image and vibe of the album. I think all these things count in the full experience of a record.

Anyways, I still think the EP cover is better and fits it's atmosphere.

The song title "Destructos VS The Earth" is completely NON MA imho... I mean... WTF guys? :homework:
