Illud is like having a caveman hit you over the head with a stick and screaming at you.
There's nothing to dissect with Illud; it's just a bouncy JUMP DA FUK UP record in the vein of Rob Zombie, Rammstein, and any other Industrial band you want to throw out there. It's a void that will devour this band's potential if this record sells well and they continue on this path. If they escape the void they will consider it a mere hiccup and continue on the path that was left off with Heretic.
Who is to say that MA has to always be "deep" and multi layered? Why can't a band choose to lighten or simplify things if they chose to? Just because they might go in that direction doesn't damn them to being a sellout. Maybe being "deep" and super serious all the time has worn on them over the years? I know as a person doing the same thing over and over and over would bore the daylights out of me. I can't even understand how musicians play certain songs over and over for 20 years without wanting to kill themselves at the mere thought of it.
Trey/Dave are in their 40's, maybe they are not nearly as angry or pissed off as they used to be and want to have a tad bit of "fun" or just don't give a shit about meeting people's expectations of what they are "supposed to sound like".
I have no idea if this was a conscious decision on their part, but I don't tend to over analyze these types of things with albums. I listen to it and decide if I like it. I don't start determining if the lyrics are cool enough or the song titles meet my mental definition of "cool", etc, etc.
I'm also curious to see people's reactions to the album 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, etc. as the further away we get from the release date, the less biased or hyper the reaction people will have.

Re: The most negative review of Illud...yet
If you would take a look at how their lyrics and approach to playing music evolved you would see that they have never done the same thing and have evolved with each album.
Also, explain to me how Illud could not give you an agressive vibe. I am criticizing this album on the basis that it is "stupid agression". It's like Rammstein and Rob Zomie. MARCH ON DESTRUCTOS, WE'RE HARDCORE RADIkUL!!1
MA started out with a very Satanic atmosphere, and it was something that they began to grow out of, and if you read interviews with Trey you will see him explaining that Christianity is dead to him, it means nothing, and he's tired of beating a dead horse into the ground. They moved on to a more Pagan approach with F, G, and H. We are now at Illud; we are back to the style of Domination. Illud is about Domination. Trey said that this was not what he wanted MA to represent when F came out, he said that he did not like the direction that Dave was taking with the lyrics. Dave scrawled those lyrics out in the studio and Trey never got a chance to read them.
Dave is back in the band and the lyrics are dumbed down again. They're blatant caveman lyrics with no meat or depth. I don't know how many different ways I can possibly say this.

I'm unhappy for people who think a band can automatically do no wrong because they are who they are, this is the exact anti-thesis of Morbid Angel's message, which is think for yourself.

themicrulah - I don't have to think like that about Morbid Angel's music, it just so happens that so far they haven't released nothing that wouldn't hit right into my soul.
You think too much, obviously.
No problem just think for yourself like you do and wave in happiness to the ones that you would like to be a part of.

themicrulah - isn't it obvious - what you say is applauded and what I say is ridiculed and mocked
There's your answer - your thoughts/fellings make you appealing to most people here and you know what those are.

Gmanjar - isn't it obvious? what you say is applauded by a select group of people [WhereTheSlimeLives, KevinP, Roma] and what I say is met with flak by said people.
There's your answer - your thoughts/feelings make you appealing to an image of non-conformity and a member of a group sharing an opinion that is generally met with disagreement.
See, I can play pseudo-psychologist too!

WHAT THE FUCK!
I have not gotten knuckledeep in this argument but this shit is just fucked. Truthful posts? Compared to what? Are you actually saying every member with a different take is LIAR? The MABB members on here are my family and speak TRUTHFULLY and PASSIONATELY without reverting to ad hominem attacks. Don't know what ad hominem is LOOK IT UP! You want to piss off a Conservative Heretic - fuck with my family, which you seem to be doing here lately and I don't get it one bit.
You were allowed to be here. You were given the gift of posting, because that is what it is a FUCKING GIFT. There is no RIGHT to post on here, that is why guests can read all they want, but to then come up in somebody's house, have them show you the respect of welcoming you into the family and then begin calling them liars.
THAT SHIT IS BAN FUCKING WORTHY!
Have some fucking newbie come on here and call them liars
The only flat out disrespect I have seen has been from new members towards those who have been here much longer. It is called RESPECTING your elders. Period. And the amount of personal shit I have read fly, initiated from NEWBIES to their ELDERS is fucking disgusting.
I keep reading the charges of possible PR flacks being some of these new guys, I was not buying it, but you know, I am starting too. How anyone can look over the threads, the passion that has been discussed and then throw this shit "for all your truthfull posts!" is either an idiot, or a liar themselves.

Congrats. You just proved yourself to be the most arrogant poster on MABB. The most tragic/comical thing about it is the fact that you have done little to prove any of these points. Take a listen to Altars, Blessed, Covenant, Domination, FFF, Gateways, and even heretic. There's your answer right there. It's already proven jackass. You've failed to acknowledge the proof. The music, vibe, atmosphere, and lyrics speak for themselves in my argument. Yours is some other agenda.

Re: The most negative review of Illud...yet
If standards are good, double standards, logically, must be TWICE as good right?
Anyway... From the recent Terrorizer mag:
Anyway... From the recent Terrorizer mag:
Found guitarist Trey Azagthoth gives us his thoughts on the direction of Illud Divinum Insanus, David's return and why he feels like an alien.
Where did the inspiration for some of the more unorthodox tracks on Illud Divinum Insanus come from?
In the past few years, I've been really getting into different types of music, including a lot of electronic music. I get bored of doing the same thing over and over again; it's popular, but I never did things for that. I do things because I'm an artist - I like to create. There are definitely songs on [the album] that are inspired by terrorcore, hardcore and industrial and the way I look at it, whatever comes out of the speakers, whether it's a real live drummer or a programmed beat with synthesizers, is energy, and that's what I look for.
Does it concern you about how people will react to those elements?
No, not really. Even with the very first record, when we got Pete [Sandoval] in after doing the demo with a different line-up, there were a few people on the scene saying, 'Pete's going to ruin your band!'. With every record we do, some people will say, 'That's not what I expected, but I listened to it and digested it, and it's really cool'. I think, at this point, after so many years, there's no shock that we'd try a different thing.
Are you comfortable with the attention that David's return is receiving?
There's nothing to defend. I think everybody has their own story, that's just the way life is. I'm just doing my thing, David's doing his thing, we're doing it together and it's going great, and it's up to people to interpret it however they want. I'm definitely not into being in the spotlight. I just do my thing, for the love of music, and to hopefully share and express something that maybe inspire them in some way. To me, that's the real value.
What are your regrets about the period where David had left the band?
To be honest, on the last few records that I did without David my material was bigger than the technology or my skillset as far as actually mixing. My material expected way more out of say, Pete, than what was even possible to play.
Do you ever worry that you might never be fully satisfied with your work?
Well, everything's dated. When it's out, it's in that time, and that's it. What we all consider to be awesome at one point might just be good later in life, because we have new reference points, and we've grown.
How would you like to be remembered by your fans?
Maybe inspiring them in some way. I'm all about the sickets, most fucked-up music ever. I never really felt like I was part of this world, like I fit into society's place for me. I've always felt like an alien. I'm here, doing my best but I seem to think differently, have different ways about my mind and have different interests.

If Trey said the truth, i dont know how he found energy in that kind of music. If that so, than i may only be able to like those tracks, the day i will found the energy in it.

Finally something Trey said, which i cant follow. I followed Trey at every point, each of his believe, that's why i consider him God.
But according to my observations, no one can totally follow/agree a person.
At points you even disagree your God.

you mean like focus cancel combos? they're a million billion times easier if you play with an arcade stick. well, compared to a gamepad anyway. i've never tried to play on keyboard but that's the only thing that stands out as 'tricky' to me in terms of inputs
Finally something Trey said, which i cant follow. I followed Trey at every point, each of his believe, that's why i consider him God.
But according to my observations, no one can totally follow/agree a person.
At points you even disagree your God.
I agree with you. I can't agree with him either about Illud. Which is totally fine, I'd never argue with him about what he thinks is good or bad.
I'm not even sure what point the forum troll is trying to make by posting that. What Trey said only reinforces the concept of infrastructure and opinion being
separate things. And ultimately infrastructure is an element that can be weighed on a more or less objective scale than assessing what is "good" or "bad". Infrastructure clues you in as to what you are listening to not it's perceptual quality. An artist is a prime example of creative expression and conveying what they think is good or bad in that present time - in other words expressing their opinions. He says "I do things because I'm an artist - I like to create". This is not a person concerned with the consistency of infrastructure only with expressing their creative drive and opinion; what they feel. So now how do we explain A,B,C,D,F,G,H? They are manifestations of his creative drive through an opinion such that it happen to create a temporal consistent infrastructure that was in sync with how we, as fans of MA, felt then and still feel as expression now. Therefore now this infrastructure is out of sync with our opinion. BUT since Trey is only a being of expressing his opinion of the time then he disregards the gist of that MA we acknowledge to be MA - even with our opinions removed - it is still a varying degree of related constitiuents that create what we know as MA. These inherent elements CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT be argued. They are nothing to be argued. They are NOT about opinion.Trey should HAVE created these competely different things under a different name, a different outlet. Everybody then goes their seperate ways with only opinion and no arguments. There would be no argument of "good" or "bad" nor questioning if this is Trey's true expression. There's no arguing that. There is only "I agree with him on that expression or I don't".

That shit is funny
What are your regrets about the period where David had left the band?
To be honest, on the last few records that I did without David my material was bigger than the technology or my skillset as far as actually mixing. My material expected way more out of say, Pete, than what was even possible to play.
This right here is a damn good explanation of why then material is not being played from F-H.

Everything else in here is spot-on sounding Trey.
@WhereTheSlimeLive: Do you have this issue in hand where you can scan the article and post?

I would love to scan it and post it, but I don't have the tools. It's a really crappy interview by the way. That "zoltar" hard-on bearer who wrote it is a total amateur.

the bit about F-H is the only remotely interesting part of that
seems like we've heard the rest of those answers a dozen times over the past few years

yes, I think Trey dont think of us anymore
In one interview he said, "Our music is risky". He forgot that or he wants to play and taste the risk.
When ever i listen to MA it feels my mind is gaining something, its the energy which flows through out the reaches of my brain.
the flow was there till H but it broken at points the same goes with tracks like nevermore, existo.
Blades may sound a Domination-piece. And again "10 more dead" the main riff is pretty intense but i fear it will only be good at PARTS like heretic tracks. The vocals and lyrics ruined it deeper.
Trey got bored of what he was doing does that means he take his art to a direction of life-less art.

Re: The most negative review of Illud...yet
English may have gone
for a minute, but I think it is accurate
When Trey said he was tired of the same ole same ole; well, we can all agree - IDI is definitely not the same ole same ole and this seems like a good summation.
He wanted to stir shit up so to speak, taste what it is he has missed. Get back into the business of being a risk taker instead of doing what he knew would be safe. Maybe I am reading more between the lines then I should, but it makes sense. Just a thought.
And I really want to read the Decibel interview now. Copy has still not arrived.

I may still be reading more than I should but is Trey essentially saying David was holding him back musically and now that David is back, this is what he has produced? In other words, with David gone he was able to just "let go" but now that he has returned, Trey's grounded himself? I am having moment I think.

His statements about his music and where it comes from always seemed pretty clear to me.
