I do this regularly once a month...when my PC is still operational that is. I'm still saving up for an upgrade...planning to get me one of those AMD Phenom X4 processor PCs. I've been stuck to a piss-ass 1.87 GHz Celeron based laptop for almost a year now and I can't play today's games.

Re: Clean your CPU fans/heatsinks.
I opened up my sisters pc the other night to do a little maintenance and goddamn I almost choked to death when I sprayed some air into that thing.

Re: Clean your CPU fans/heatsinks.
I pulled out a disc of lint about 1/2cm thick from the space between my heatsink and fan. My PC has been loud as fucking hell for the past few months, but after cleaning it, the problem was solved. Average temps were at like 67 C now they're at 40 C, pretty insane.

It's amazing what a little regular maintenance can do for a device.
It is also amazing to see what happens to copious amounts of dust when it slow cooks at 50-60c for a year or two.

Personally I wouldn't get one of the Phenom CPUs. From what I understand, they run a lot hotter than the Intel Core 2 Quads do. My Q8200, @ 75% load (highest I've ever gotten it to run at) only hits 40C/104F with a Zalman CNPS-9500 on it. System/Case is a constant 43C/109F with one side off, and only two fans above the PSU and one under the HD rack.

I had a computer that I used and didn't clean for 2 years. Bitch ton of dust.
Computers know when to shut off from the temperature, so its no worries really. Just clean it when it gets bad.

I am jamming a notebook these days. Couple bursts of compressed air in the vents and I'm good.

i have heard the phrase philips head screwdriver. i dont think that is all that is needed. i suspect the difficult part is not doing what needs to be done, but rather knowing what to do

Re: Clean your CPU fans/heatsinks.
i walked someone through their first build remotely last year. he did 90% of the work on his own without needing my help and could've figured out the remaining 10% on his own if he really needed to
the most difficult thing is probably just knowing what to buy, and on that front i contributed a lot. but just in going through that process, and then unpacking everything and just looking at it, you can kind of derive what ultimately must be done

the ssds are fine, the mechanical drive is probably fine as long as it isn't bothered. I can't fit all that bullshit in the case and the side cover got lost at my office. it's FINE
