The back end of the album is marred by lacklustre songs which hurts the album even more than it already does. They're not bad per say but when even the first half doesn't really takeoff thanks to the squishy sound of the album.
earlier when i said 'least liked', i didn't even consider I
I never consider Illud. I skipped through it on youtube this morning just to check it out again but my god... it's horrendous. David is actually making all the songs worse with his attitude and vocal style. That shit should have been a separate project.
To be fair, Illud has some great tunes that are unfortunately overshadowed by the general impression on the record that it's on. Nevermore is classic Trey riffing and I love it.
Can you imagine how Destructhor must feel? Imagine being a long time fan of the band. And then you got the opportunity to record an album with that band and you flew all the way to that band's country so you're all excited as fuck. Only to realize that you will be recording the worst album of that band, the band that you love so much. And you're a part of it.
Yeah it’s bizar. I agree to a certain point about the metal songs. Nevermore is a pretty solid MA song but the songwriting of I and K (even one or two songs on H) are not my cup of tea. That’s just taste.
But where I agree with you is on Illud every horrible song leaves me with a bitter taste causing me to not be able to like the better songs. The whole context is infected with the bad stuff.
I think Thor’s material is trying to make it a better record.
