Ironically Romney ended up being one of the only sane republicans the past few years.

he's just as insane as the rest, he just brands himself as a Reasonable Republican™ and MSNBC types are happy to amplify that perception because it aligns with their political goals (bolstering conservative power to ensure the donor class stays fat and happy)

i think it's perfectly fine to criticize biden. he absolutely could unfuck a great deal of the damage of the last 20 years, and unilaterally at that. he chooses not to do so, and there is no reason to expect him to govern any differently over the next three years.

democrats do not govern, that is the role of republicans. in the era of capitalist triumphalism, democrats basically exist to ensure the left is completely shut out from political power. and of course they put on a nice little show like they're trying to do this or that, and we swear we really want to do something, but gosh, the senate and the supreme court are just being real mean. but uhh, keep voting for us, we swear we'll get it next time!

i think at this point my contention would be that the political system isn't broken at all, it's functioning more or less exactly as its owners expect it to. we just had the misfortune of being born at a time where outmoded assumptions about what american government is and does are still prevalent in popular discourse. but if those assumptions were ever valid, they certainly aren't anymore.
