I can't recall having any ambition at all as a child. Now I seem to have too much of ambition, but it's sort of useless because it would have mattered more if I had that as a child- I would have been more focused and made better decisions earlier on.

All I knew is that I wanted to be a hard working hard-on bearer like my dad, who is a plumber. Dude is 67 years old, still works twice as much/fast as everyone decades younger.
I pretty much ended up as everything I didn’t want to be A suit wearing corporate finance worker. I won’t say I regret my choices but it’s funny how things work out.
My parents are proud as hell of what I’ve achieved so I guess everything worked out perfectly

as for me, i had the firefighter, astronaut, astronomer and then marine biologist phase

I remember really wanting to write for The Simpsons growing up. This was back when it was a good show and happened to be on for a solid four hours per day even if you didn't have cable. I still worship guys like John Swartzwelder and George Meyer. I guess it's fitting that they were the logical endgame of TV.

I've been thinking a lot lately about changing jobs. What I do now was really fun for a long time and paid well, but I've gotten kind of burned out on it.

One career that seems like it could be a lot of fun and very fulfilling is training service dogs. I'm not sure what it takes to get into that line of work, but every time I see stories about that on the news I catch myself thinking that working with those dogs is something I'd probably be fine doing even on a voluntary basis.

i wish i could change careers but maintain the pay about to hit my 9th year in software and i feel kind of lifeless, the money makes it too hard to leave for me. i'm not miserable but i am bored.

you should check if there's any volunteer work in that field paste, could be cool. my brother briefly trained support doggos, he loved it but also got too attached to every dog, said it was hard to see them go when they were done

I never would have thought anyone here would have info on that specific of a job

For now I have to be careful about what I do because I'm out of work while recovering from an injury, but maybe I'll PM you for info if this looks like a direction I could take. Even anecdotal stuff could be useful

I have no regrets with what I did for work for as long as I did, but getting paid to do something you find fun for a bit less is probably the right choice. That's also something so obvious that it sounds retarded to even point it out.

I was trying to remember where I first heard about this. Since I couldn't I just made a post in some other topic before getting to the bottom of it. Oh well. Anyway I've been meaning to get more of his books. I have a feeling those will be difficult to find sooner than later.

my grandpa did it for 25 years - he did some wild shit and also saved a lot of people

i know someone who went to a firefighter interview wearing a fight fire with fire tshirt

And was hired on the spot.
