i enjoy sports but i enjoy sports in discrete settings, i.e. let's sit and watch this sports game and drink the beers
i do not follow it the sports over longer time periods, it is the waste of time for the i bucket

I enjoy athleticism. But I've never understood why everyone's like OMG MY TEAM!!!!! or knowing like all the stats of the players? Some sports are just silly to me- like baseball, running in a circle getting tagged or thrown out? I dunno.
at this point it feels more like a social thing to me (that I still don't participate in ). Like ok, just get together with folks and hang out and act like a fool when a point is scored or game is won or lost.

I used to like basketball. It was the social aspect, lost interest over the years.

i followed university of kentucky for a season and we won 48 games and lost the 49th, i felt depressed for like a week. that was the last time i ever really paid attention to sports. but also uk basketball is like a religion down here, literally everyone follows it and if you need an ice breaker it's a good one

I'm on the same page as skinner, also because I practise jiu jitsu.
I also used to be a roller derby referee and loved watching those games and tournaments. After reffing the world cup in 2018 I retired from that and now I don't care much about it anymore. But that was a very cool decade.

Cycling can make me emotional, sweaty grown men in funny clothing on a bicycle. Very heroic. I know a bit of the suffering it takes. They are all on drugs but it still takes a lot of hard work. Sometimes man against man or nature can make it honest. There's so much history in it, for me personally because I used to watch a lot together with my dad. From the riders there are some interesting stories. Like Bartali, champion and war hero he used to deliver messages to the resistance while cycling. He hid a jewish family in his basement. Won two tours ten years apart

I fucking love baseball. I've been watching it since I was a toddler.

What's your favorite moment in baseball Nick?
Easy, the 2131 game. Cal Ripken Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played record. It was always one of those unbreakable records, so seeing someone who I idolized growing up break that record was incredible. It meant a little more for everyone here too, Cal is from here and spent his entire career with them and is still a big figure in the state. He was always a really humble hard-on bearer about it and never made a big deal out of it.
With the way the game is played now it might actually be unbreakable though. It currently stands at 2,632 games which would be 16 1/4 seasons. So you'd have to break in at a relatively young age and be consistent enough to warrant every day play, not to mention be lucky enough to never suffer an injury that would require you to miss time.

I didn't truly appreciate getting to watch Greg Maddux and Tony Gwynn until it was towards the tail end of their careers. Those guys were absolutely generational talents at their respective positions.

i disike sports, but people being interested in it isnt more puzzling than why people like tv shows or movies
i do find it weird when people have some kind of pride in a sports team they like
