Road trip back to Dallas (this time permanently)

I will be driving from Phoenix Arizona to Dallas Texas this week. It's going to be a looooong trip but I am so looking forward to finally putting Phoenix behind me. Good bye hot weather, ugly mountains, bad food and state taxes. In some ways I feel like Dallas isn't the same place I used to remember, it seems to be more unwelcoming because rent has gone up so much, but I think the same can be said about everywhere in the US. But that being said I am really long forward to making my return, hopefully this time permanently.

Because even Dallas is probably an improvement over Phoenix. Not sure why it has to be Dallas though - does your work not have any other offices elsewhere in the country?

Austin fits that description, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio aren't there yet.
However the extensive migration of workers from Westcoast towards Texas is real - you can see that reflected in U-Haul prices. It cost me $800 to rent a truck from Dallas to Phoenix. When I looked into renting the truck for Phoenix to Dallas the price shot up to $2200. When I looked at CA to TX prices just for awareness, the price was over 3x what you would pay for TX to CA.
Due to the high truck and fuel costs, mover costs and inconvenience of driving a truck, this time I chose not to take the furniture with me and sold it all off on FB marketplace.

The reasons outlined in the second sentence in my opening post continue to outweigh the increased costs of living that I suspect have permeated all cities of the US, including Phoenix where I currently live. The rent for the apartment that I am living in has gone up by $900.

How unfortunate. It seems your years of presence on this board have not brought us closer to each other.
