we have a few internal sites / web applications that run exclusively on Internet Explorer or Chrome. While the IE specific ones will load in Chrome their functionality is limited (data fields, buttons, etc don't always respond).

our IT department kind of blows when it comes to roll-outs so I can only imagine what this will entail.

I know a lot if education sites don’t work on chrome. I know teachers still use transparencies and vhs tapes. It’s a funding not going where it should issue to be blunt.

Accounting seemed to be more up to date as does the payroll services i have seen in action. Doesn’t mean everywhere is.

my current issue at work is a ton of disparate products owned by a tiny handful of vendors still aren't updating anything to work on modern browsers because microsoft let them off the hook. IE mode in edge will be supported through 2029, it's a fucking joke. you already know whatever product succeeds edge will wind up including it as well, we're never going to be rid of IE.

Linux is amazing, secure, virus free (a few exceptions), and easy but won’t profit anyone so will never be used.

I had to switch back to windows because there is no open source software for cutting machines sadly crafters and diyers are stuck with windows or scrapple.

all those nerds and they couldn't figure out audio drivers back in the 2000s so i gave up and never looked back. linux is great if your hobby or occupation is using a computer, rather than all the various tasks a computer might help you to accomplish.

I like that everything is customizable and you have complete control unlike with windows

I am a computer/tech moron and could get everything to work. Had to google an issue or two but I got it.

Biggest issue lots of software you need or are required to use for various careers like cricut, payroll software, adobe, etc are not compatible and there are not always viable alternatives.

This may have changed since I last heard about it a few years ago, but apparently the U.S. government still uses Windows 95 and floppy disks in some capacity for day to day operations at the pentagon and nuclear power plants. Maybe they're simply not connected to the internet so it wouldn't matter. Or they are, but we'd all be vaporized before even realizing something had gone wrong.

linux really is the way to go but the productivity software just isn't there to capture the market. linux is powering most of the web though which is really cool and tons of other things like smart tvs, android, cameras, etc.

that's probably true to some extent. i've heard there are cobol programmers who are struggling to retire because no one fucking learns cobol anymore since it's so old. a fellating lover of mine works in an automotive plant and they have machines running windows xp that control assembly lines

I've also heard a lot of ATMs still run on very old software that no longer gets updated. Or at least they did up until recently. Same issues with everything from gas pumps to common use washing machines that have the option to swipe a credit card for payment. Oh what a world

i used ubuntu linux on my media pc at first, but the videos always played choppy so i switched it to windows

linux has the potential to take over but it would probably just end up another windows with the kind of bureaucracy it would need to succeed
