Thankfully there's only a few pieces of furniture we need. Got some boxes unpacked and started setting things up yesterday.

Pro tip: for wood pieces check thrift and consignment stores. Thats what I did for my house.

If you are handy sometimes side of the road has hidden gems. Found a nice dresser that way just needed sanding and a stain.

half of my furniture came from thrift / consignment stores. the other half from IKEA
consignment stores can be a gold mine for high end furniture at a pretty steep discount.
only things I've bought new were a couch and mattresses.

Right? I got a beautiful china cabinet to display my doll collection. I thought I couldn’t afford an all wood piece like that on my budget. You just gotta be patient and keep an eye out.

Lifetime anytime family or friends went our of the country i’d give them money for a doll to represent that country.

Got ones from Jamaica, all over europe, all over asia, a few antique.

how big are they

Most are smaller a foot pr less

A few are two feet tall and a few are rag dolls like my Caribbean and south american ones.

One of the Thai ones I have is the largest

Actually yes

The creepy beauty standards and the lengths people go to in order to achieve it. I find dolls to have a creepy beauty and fascinating history to them.

what do you mean, creepy beauty standard? just that actresses/singers/models tend to be far more attractive than most other people?

Every culture has its own beauty standard, its own pressure on people to fit those standards. It has always been this way and most likely always will. It is horrific the lengths some have gone historically such as putting lead in their face, injecting concrete in their ass, bleaching skin, foot binding, nevk rings, thats just the tip of the iceberg.

Dolls have a creepy beauty and represent the standards forced upon us throughout history. Theu represent the imagination, repigion, history, culture, gender rolls, a whole myriad of things. they are not simply girly play things.

Estate sales in upscale neighborhoods are another good bet. Come to think of it I've even gotten a few things for free that were sitting on street corners (lamps, a table, a big oriental rug, etc). I used to have to drop off my rent check in kind of a nice part of town, and since it was always the very end or beginning of the month lots of people would be moving and sometimes left out unwanted but otherwise perfectly fine items.

yeah I've seen some nice drops outside of people's homes before - usually gone within a couple of hours. I know when I moved and had some large furniture that was too big to donate (an old but nice desk, some metal patio furniture, etc) it was gone in like an hour of putting it on the curb.

the thing that sucks is if you put appliances out the scrappers get to them before someone who could actually use it does - had an old washer and dryer (that were still functional) that the previous owners left behind (ours are old too but were newer and nicer), tried to donate them first to habitat for humanity, etc but apparently they won't take appliances that are over 10 years old (sucks, but I understand why since they are morel likely to break down) and so I put them on the curb with a cardboard sign reading "Free! both still work!" went out later and someone had torn them apart for whatever valuable metals were inside. talked to my neighbor about it and apparently that is pretty common, if you can't donate it just put it out on bulk trash day
