the burisma stuff was a known quantity at least as far back as 2014-2015, long before it was picked up for purely partisan bickering reasons. payoffs and no-show jobs for children and spouses of important people is just how business is done. see also e.g., the entire conservative wing of the supreme court, jared kushner, chuck schumer's kids, etc

I have no doubt about the corruptness of the overall system, the bribes by entire classes cloaked as donations or lobbies for causes, the privileges for political families that ensure they stay rich and powerful. But I think that within that overall system, these characters tend to follow the laws of that system, especially so since they are so well acquainted with those laws because they set them up.
