ChatGPT plus and Dall E 3

Hey fellas I got a subscription for this and I'm already having this create artwork for me. It's great.
I was previously wondering how I would hang artwork in my house without it costing me a fortune but this is a super cheap solution, all I have to do is print whatever I want on a canvas.
It could cost a little more to get those high resolutions but it's off to a good start.

This is definitely going to put a lot of artists out of business, especially metal album cover designers.

1. Make an art piece of a young g
.irl in a frock, running towards a field with flowers in spring. Our perspective is that we see her from the back as she faces the field.
2. Make an art piece of a shotgun wielding hero riding a harley davidson through the fires of hell with demons all around
3. Make an impressionist painting. Include a feminine face. Use fewer colors.

just unbelievable to me that there are so many dead-eyed psychopaths out there that are so incensed that art and artists haven't already been sufficiently marginalized and devalued. "let's throw tens of billions of dollars at completely obliterating one of the most fundamentally human endeavors, and in the most resource-intensive fashion possible. let's devote hundreds of thousands of our most talented and educated people towards replacing art with a bunch of tacky, derivative dreck, and we'll devote the world's dwindling energy resources toward running the system. these are all good and valuable things to do with our limited time on this earth"
i know i'm in a tiny minority of people that actually cares about any of this stuff, and that my opinion amounts to nothing and i am powerless to do anything about any of it. and that certainly doesn't make me happy. but it's the incurious enthusiasm with which great masses of people are signing on to this program that truly saddens me

I used Midjourney when it came out, experimented with it and made around 50 different artworks. Good shit. But then I read up more on it and what it was actually doing. Felt bad about all of it, and haven't used it since.
Thought Dall-E 2 was extremely weak sauce though.

Dude, you're telling one side of the story.
The side of the story you're not talking about is how art has tended to be the luxury of the rich. Who do you think has the money to buy original art work? Not the working man. This is a bourgeois field to begin with. Now this is becoming accessible to the majority population. I'll give you an example of myself. I was looking up paintings to hang up in my home. And you know what, anything that didn't look like absolute dog shit costs hundreds of dollars that I can't afford. With this I can. I can print what I want on a canvas and hang it up at a fraction of the cost.
The second piece is that some trades and crafts inevitably phase out. That's just the reality. No matter how hard a handicraftsman works in his personal workshop, he's not going to be able to keep up with machine manufacture. That's life.
Thirdly, if you're worried about creative expression being stifled, this is just finding creative new ways to do that. Use these tools to express yourself.

i am not against ai but it's definitely going to change things. i personally believe that eventually the lines will blur so much that we won't be able to tell what's human and what's ai.
i never expected it to impact art but it's coming for that too. most people simply won't care if an album cover or shitty episode of tv is created by an ai. it's also coming for music.

It's already becoming a big problem in gaming and films too. It's one of the core reasons why there are strikes going on in Hollywood.
You also get bombarded by badly produced AI articles on Google as well. Shit's bad.

Can you guys hear me back in 2008?
Issue with ai isnt replacement of artists but copyright abusr in a field its already ab issue. Ai steals from artists who do not consent. Happens in crafting a lot with images and fonts too

Yeah, it's basically machine learning. Everything that's being churned out is plagiarized and worked on someone else's work. I was able to identify a couple comic-styles that someone posted a while ago, and it was obvious which artist was being copied.
It's cool if you want to hang art in your room, but you can also pay a good artist on Instagram to make something for you as well. You can find several people who don't charge a kidney.

Human knowledge and creative expression do not occur in a vacuum or come out of nowhere. We are inspired by things we see and hear that others have already done. We then produce an iteration on that that's slightly different.
The whole Spaghetti Western genre for example is just slight variations of a more profound work. I don't see people making a big deal out of that. Even Newton acknowledged his revolutionary work as being possible only because he stood on the shoulders of giants.
Nobody really comes up with something that is totally uninfluenced by some already existing thing. Your mannerisms, your genetics, your language, your way of thinking, what you choose to eat, none of this was completely original. You are yourself an iteration as an evolutionary organism.
If you don't find a problem with accepting this fact, why would you find a problem with AI being that and doing that?
If your problem with this is that this is concentrating wealth into the hands of some minority individuals, there is a clear way to deal with it, and that's to make it a public and regulated system, instead of private.

If you spend a few hours designing an image and see it on a shirt that you arent getting paid for how would you feel?
As someone who is part of the art community and has sold their work this is a problem. People already do not want to pay artists and crafters because its not a necessity. There are dozens of sites like temu, amazon, and wish that already steal designs and use them permission and copyright be damned. I wont lie and say its not tempting a good deal is a good deal anx everyone wants that.
You throw in ai which is known to take images and ideas without permission and its an even bigger issue.
Crafting we all piggy back off each other theres only so much you can do that folks will actually buy art does this too but its not a web crawler spewing it out at a rate humans cant compete with.

reinterpretation of previous works involves an understanding of its original context and crafting something from it that fits into another. there are sprawling networks of meaning and intention and history that go into it. that is categorically different to the literally mindless process of programatically stealing and recombining previous works based on a text prompt. if the value of art to you extends no further beyond the image or product that results at the end, and not the whole universe of human experience that goes into it and to which it can relate, i guess i just don't know what to tell you.

"OpenAI’s ChatGPT is the target of a major new lawsuit, alleging the company illegally copied the copyrighted works of authors to train the artificial-intelligence robot.
Led by the Authors Guild, a New York-based professional organization for published writers, a group of 17 writers, including George R.R. Martin, John Grisham, Jodi Picoult, George Saunders and Jonathan Franzen, joined the proposed class-action lawsuit against OpenAI."

I'm on board with these lawsuits. Where these organizations behind AI can be held accountable and reigned in, with compensation and penalties for plagiarism, they should be. This field does require regulation and management for sure.

Im just pro people getting compensated for their work and dont want to contribute to that struggle. Same reason i dobt shop on temu, wish, or shein and mostly just thrift lately.

I agree. More of a practical effects gu y myself. But yeah, that's more to do with severely overworked artists and production companies and distributors being shoddy fuckers when it comes to CGI looking terrible, as it's been happening lately. Unionization's the only real answer there, and that's finally started to kick off.

In a legislative attempt to stave off the inevitable demise of humanity at the hands of roaming hunter-killer robots, US President Joe Biden has issued an executive order establishing a new set of standards that will guide the development of AI. The order includes requirements to "develop standards, tools, and tests to help ensure that AI systems are safe, secure, and trustworthy," and to share relevant data about AI models with the US government.

"safe, secure and trustworthy" in this application do not mean what the average person would understand them to. this is in the broad 'national security' sense, which of course has nothing to do with the safety or security of individual people, but rather to protect the existing political order and the privileges and resource/profit claims of transnational western capital which it upholds.
