if i were the type of hard-on bearer that had money, i'd wager a good amount of it that no artist sees a dime of any settlement or lawsuit victory.



anyway, this one is going to be appealed all the way to the supreme court if need be, i think they're eventually trying to challenge the constitutionality of damage awards like this.

If I ever got caught and sentenced to pay $80,000 per download, I'd just laugh at them and tell them to come get it. I couldn't sell all the stuff that I have AND all the stuff I ever owned and come up with 80 grand.

i'm willing to bet there's been plenty of folks in the same situation who at the very least, went the suicide route. afaik, fines like these are one of the types of debt that can't be wiped out by any bankruptcy filings, so they never go away. considering they can claim up to 25% of your wages, and you've got legal fees on top of that in most cases... yeah, the average person isn't going to be doing too hot.
