I first saw this trailer months ago, but saw it again recently. I think I would like to see this.

i'm confused.

It's hard to tell where the director will put focus in the movie: the disaster end or the drama end. I think it may be on the psychology of the situation enmeshed in their lives. Hard to tell, but looks interesting.

is it supposed to be a looming disaster?



all I could tell from that preview was:



"oh, I'm getting married and i'm rich! i'm happy, but i'm sad. oh look a light in the sky, im scared. the end."

A small planet by the name of Melancholia, previously obscured by the Sun, makes a pass by Earth with the potential to collide.

See, I'd get excited about this, but the astronomical part will be discussed in minimal detail and barely depicted at all in the film. Meanwhile, a misanthropic tale of love will be well acted but poorly written. So I'll sit there for two hours waiting for cool planet shit and getting really sick of the developing dynamic between what's-her-name and the brunette woman.

While you're probably right, it should be noted that I first heard of it on Phil Plait's blog and not in a negative context.

It also probably doesn't address how such a planet could go hidden from notice for the duration of human astronomical study and yet still be on a collision course with the Earth.

She's not half bad at playing someone a bit off kilter.
