Yeah, really. Now I'm just waiting for Erik to hit the school age where Edison is first mentioned so I can wait outside the classroom and burst in at the first mention of his name and angrily correct the teacher.

as far as i know, grade-school teachers have to follow a very specific lesson plan. i'm sure a lot of educators are aware of how much of a dickbag edison was. (i hope they know)

i read tesla's autobiography (you should too! ). there really aren't words to describe what that man was. he had a really one-of-a-kind synesthesia, where if he heard someone speak the name of an object, it would appear in front of him. as he grew older, the only way to get rid of these visions was to imagine something else. that evolved into being able to tinker with and move these objects. from this, he was able to build a working prototype of an invention the first time, every time.



he also, apparently, had an older brother who was (as tesla himself describes) much smarter, but died in his teens.

Is the obsession of a supposed tortured genius an American thing, or do all nations join in reading way too far into this?

I have Tesla: Man Out Of Time and The Problem of Increasing Human Energy in my amazon cart right now, though I'm headed to Burlington on Saturday and may pick them up there instead.

The man was remarkable. How is celebrating his genius and contributions while chiding the cuntitude of Edison reading too far into anything? (Or am I misinterpreting what you're saying?)

I don't think fanboyism is relevant here. The fact just is that Nikola Tesla was a brilliant man who developed a good many technologies that were far ahead of the time. One doesn't have to be a fanboy to recognize and admire that.



Also, he was a close fellating lover of Mark Twain.

Acknowledging a genius who was usurped at almost every juncture and just went about continuing to be awesome does not a fanboy make.

I prefer the sounds of the words in the oatmeal one.

The Wardenclyffe Tower thing is definitely for the conspiracy theory nuts. Tesla is without a doubt one of the best engineering minds to have ever lived, but he did make some fantastic claims that have not yet been proved.

That's sort of what I was getting at earlier. It's pretty obvious that most people are more interested in the man's eccentricities and misfortunes than his actual accomplishments. Plus it's not like anyone ever stops and thinks "You know, I'm really glad Tesla sat down and thought about Radar all those years ago." His intellect is appreciable and all that, but let's not get nuts.
