You assumption is correct and it's really sad. However, there are still a lot of women involved in metal somehow (bands, press, etc) who play on the whole "OMG LOOK AT ME! I HAVE FEMALE PARTS AND LISTEN TO METAL!" thing. It goes both ways and is disappointing really. Here we are in 2014, women have been metal fans or in metal bands since the 70s and the mentality hasn't changed.

It is interesting how female fans have grown in the last 10+ years.

I think back to when I was young and went to metal shows heaps.

It was always a sausagefest, and there'd be the odd few ladies, either some hard-on bearer's girlfriend who got dragged along and looks awkward & out of place, or a (rare) metal chick, in metal T's. ...or also 'goth girls'.



It's great there more ladies involved in metal (all areas) these days, for many reasons.
