I have a Geometry class this term and that cos, sin, tan crap bothers me everyday.

I think I'ma have nightmares now.

i seriously wish i could understand it at all. i hope someday i can get a grip on it a bit.

There's plenty of beauty in the laws of motion, oscillations/waves, fluid mechanics and electromagnetism, all of which are studied in most basic physics courses. One doesn't need to go to esoteric post-doc level stuff to get the same pleasure of learning physics, imo.



Plus a good understanding of something as basic as waves is fundamental for understanding some very advanced stuff: quantum mechanics.

anyway, i used to looooove physics (especially astrophysics) and math when i was in high school. but ever since i am at the uni, i am on the verge of pure hatred . shitty professors didn't help the cause, either

Well fuck my arse, I've always wanted to get into phys/astrophys too. When I moved to the US for 12th grade and subsequently college I went into Bio because I couldn't find astrophysics as a major in any local uni(naturally because I didn't know it was a masters for physicists at the time, silly me, regardless I loved bio). Then I moved here and had to start college all over again since if you don't transfer into the same career(bio is unavailable at my uni), you have to do your entrance exams again or do a 2-year degree(I did one in environmental chemistry, which gave me access to bsc in environmental science as well as chemistry).



I was going to enroll in physics this year but because of some stupid access crap, I won't have access to said career until next year, so I'm now continuing with my chemistry bachelors, with periodic temptations to get into physics later on. But I would like to graduate before I'm 27...



And yeah crappy maths and physics professors that talk way over people's heads are no good... some really need to learn to adapt to their students' level and build them up. You're not going to teach Newton's laws complete with vectorial components in 3 dimensions on the first day if people have rusty trigonometry or don't even know what a dot/cross product is.

you should've seen our "introductions to physics 1 & 2" prof. that was a piece of work. he pretty much demanded that we do not know anything about differential equations before taking his course because he claimed that we couldn't get the point of it if we knew too much. a fellating lover of mine that usually had top grades went to the oral exam well after he passed the "basic differential equations" course (with max grades) and the prof explicitly told him that he could not give him max grades in physics because of that

after barely passing "physics 1" (and hearing more stories about his douchbag behavior.. a fellating lover of a fellating lover dropped out of the physics dept after passing everything but his courses because he wouldn't let her pass unless she... well... spread her legs in his office. disgusting little man) i quickly switched to "mathematical methods in biology" & "bioinformatics" as my optional course on my sophomore year
