I honestly don't think J will happen. I would like them to go out on a strong note but I get the feeling this will be the last MA.

Not that this band rushes to do anything, but I would think with such a critical and fan "stinker" they would go back to the drawing board and get a new album out within 1.5-2 years, so the taste of this doesn't last that long.

They are not going anywhere. This is going, whether believed or not, open many new doors to the young mush craving a taste of individualistic freedom. If it takes IDI to reach more ears than may have otherwiss not been blessed with hearing them, than more the better. It falls below what we wanted yet at the same time continues to progress the independence and bravery of the individual against the collective.

Something is happening here and it is not a decline of the heralds of The Ancient Ones. Hold fast.

Probably, but just the drums and the bass is not what Drum and Bass means.

Get Pete, Rutan and Tucker back for some serious business. :rshot:

You know, this makes too much sense. I was excited when Dave came back since I have an affinity for bands when they have their classic lineup, even though the Tucker albums were good.

Now I'm thinking we need him back for some sense of balance and lack of plastic pentagram shirts

If it happens and sounds like the IDI album I wouldn't bother with them.Probly wouldn't wear any gear ever again either.

I seriously doubt that there will be a J album. Morbid Angel will probably fall into the trap of touring every so often playing the old songs that built their fanbase and collecting their money from that. It's all too obvious that the older members of the band (David and Trey at this point) don't care much about death metal anymore. Nothing wrong with that, but don't try to fool people into thinking misguided and half-assed "experimentation" (which isn't really experimental at all) is worthwhile.

I've mentioned the Manowar comparison before - Morbid Angel is just a nostalgia act at this point. Play some live shows to people who don't give a fuck about any sort of integrity, and collect a paycheck based on the merit of old songs. It doesn't matter if they put out newer albums that are completely weak - there's more than enough people at this point who will pay money just to watch them play "Chapel of Ghouls" for the 10000000th time.

I don't know why, but when I think of the possibility of a J album, I can't help but think that it's going tear my face off with awesome music.

Wouldn't that be awesome if Trey felt the same kind of dissatisfaction as he did after "Domination" and came back with a raging album? One could always hope, but I really think that his heart isn't in it anymore. Anyway, let's see what happens. Hopefully he'll stop worshipping terrorcore or whatever and realize that the rest of the metal world is passing him by.

One more thing - I never got a chance to see them with Tucker but have always loved the MA albums with Steve on bass/vox, so I've been watching some Youtube videos of live performances. I just can't believe that they won't play those awesome songs live now! Is Disco D really that insecure? I have seen the video for Bil Ur-Sag and he butchers it... it's just not the same. Just imagine having three records (F, G, H) of killer material and not being able to play it just because one person in the band doesn't want to... :frown:

Kick Disco D, get a decent bas player and then let Destructhor do the vocals.

I don't understand, they had Rutan and now they have Destructhor and NEITHER have done vocals (not even backing vocals).

Maybe I'm being too harsh here, but I really don't understand why Thor is in the band at all. His rhythm playing is fine as far as the old stuff goes, but his lead guitar parts completely suck ass with respect to the chaotic style of MA's old material, and his songs aren't much better. "Blades for Baal" was a decent song, but not much more than that. Even worse, I have to admit that "Blades for Baal" was probably one of the best songs off the new album. :frown: Right now, MA doesn't seem like a real cohesive band - just David, Trey, and some hired guns.

Just a disclaimer - I've never really liked Myrkskog much, so that might be coloring my opinion a bit.

Pete hasn't returned yet: I expect him to reclaim his part of the band in execution as well as in co-directing.

Yes, he's a stronger personality then Trey. Compared to Dave I'm not sure though. I'm sure his drumming will be more prominent compared to Tim 'hired missile' Yeung.

i suppose, when you think about it, if illud had better drumming it would be basically an awesome album

I disagree because that's only one element: it's mainly the lack of enough inspired riffing that fails the album.

this is applicable to so many different bands its almost ridiculous[/quote]

Absolutely! It's just that MA always seemed to be above that, so to see their behavior since David came back is really disappointing. But yeah, there are tons of bands that do the same kind of thing. To me, it's totally lame and lacks integrity - they'd rather get a few bucks than stand up for the new material that they think is so "awesome" or whatever.

No, it wouldn't. What Illud lacks is substance. The album has some good songs, but they are not pure Morbid Angel, as we know it.
