I think for a lot of people this is their favorite MA album. people that say otherwise gave up on the band after David left and never gave it a chance. Formulas is just pure win.

BATS is numero uno for me since it was my first, but I must agree - Formulas all the way. This was the one that truly took off for me. This was when my soul and Spirit became complete.

And it has got to be one of if not the fastest albums they have. Chamber of Dis is just pounding on drums!

This was really what I was hoping for with the new one, this intensity taken to a whole new level!

That's the one thing that struck me with this album is the blistering pace of its. But you can't forget the progressively slower part at the end of Nothing is not. Man that was pretty hypnotic when I first listened to it

The pace definitely It just grabs you for a ride and doesn't let up till it's over. I love how you have slow harmonic melodies, almost whimsical and then BAM dark, heavy as hell riffage. Yeah, this album is the embodiment of where I really felt they were going musically.

I don't want another Formulas.

Formulas is Formulas. A new album can never be what Formulas is, and neither should it.



But I agree, the entire album is fucking amazing!!!

Sometimes in winter evenings - when dark arrives and you can clearly see all the stars and full moon maybe - I take a walk with my mp3 player, listen to Formulas and Let the LAVA flow!

Albums like these are just one in a million. Some get it some don't. A lot of critics thought it was unfocused. I do not think i have to explain how it inspired me.

I agree that they should not have tried to make a second version of any album for that matter. I just feel that the seclusion they dwell them self in backfired on this one. I truly believe they are under the inpression they made the best album possible. The thing is, it has been done before by others and better. Because of the way they place themself outside the mainstream kept them from seeing that. Where before the music he listened to served as an inspiration to be interpeted on guitar, now he started to create the same stuff as his influences.



Also i think FFttF was a change for Trey. It is just like that album was a cleansing for him. Like he excorsized all his demons and focused it in one of the most hatefull albums ever. His vibe of riffing changed on G and H. Still being Trey but with another feel. And i meen that not in a unrespectfull manner.

Before he summoned demons trying to open the the ancient gates. Nowadays he floats around in space among his befriended gas giants.

If they would have developped the polyrhythmic structures even further but worked them into a little more compact arrangements it would have been awesome i think.



All of this is just me thinking aloud. In no way i am trying to bash or insult him. But in my opinion the Riff-daddy should be riffing.

Uni you summed it up quite poetic brother. In my mind I don't want this to be the magnum opus for them, as that means there will be nothing better. I don't like that thought at all but perhaps saying a second version may not be correct way on my part, but the vibe, the feeling, the PASSION. Yeah, that's it. The passion on this one is just so literally tangible you can feel it, taste it, touch it, experience it on so many levels.



Wherever his thought process was during this time was just phenomenal. I would be a liar untutored in righteousness if I said otherwise.

Do you honestly think MA can ever top this album? I mean to me, Formulas is the ultimate death metal album (along with NSV). I'm listening to Invocation right now and I honestly don't ever see another death metal album ever even coming close to the power and creativity of this release.

Years ago when I was around 12 or 13, at the time when I first discovered Morbid Angel. I bought Heretic when it was released directly after I had seen the video for Enshired By Grace, and I was blown away by it's brutality and everything. I wasn't even familiar with Death Metal at that time, but I collected all the MA albums and Steve Tucker became my favourite. The last album I found was Formulas, I knew that it was the first with Tucker so I had big hopes for it, and this album changed my life so much. First because of it's brutality and perfectionism, then I read the lyrics and several of interviews with Trey from that time and I started to understand the concept of the whole album, I inhaled the music. The whole atmosphere of it gave me a mediative state of mind that I never EVER felt before. It's not just the greatest album of all time, but also one of greatest inspiration for me in life.

In their current mindset: HELL NO! But I think that it can still be reached. I agree and take it a step further, this is the best METAL album period.

I refuse to believe (not saying others are saying this, just my thoughts) Trey's skills have diminished. I see this as a severe funk they are in.



Imagine if Heretic had the production of FFttF? Lyrically content is similar, similar sick-ass riffage, just a lot "dirtier" of a sound. Gateway is another phenomenal sound direction they went, but Formulas, yeah Formulas Fatal to the Flesh is ALL WIN!

FUCKING THIS! Well fucking said and dead on point! This was the one album that truly opened my eyes to the Spiritual yearnings I kept feeling but could never put words to.

Formulas is my favourite album. I agree wholheartedly with everything in this thread.

That's my position for the album too. Although it's joint 4th with Covenant. These two and Alters, Gateways and Heretic are all about the same for me but for all very different reasons. Blessed and Domination I can't get into.

The energy, creativity, spiritual essence and magic this album has brought into my life has been unparalled. From the mighty beginning to the powerful end, "Formulas" is fucking awesome.

Considering the (Oh so sad) recent events, it is legitimate to consider "Formulas" the "Magnum opus" of Morbid Angel
