Morbid Angel frontman David Vincent has exclusively spoken to Terrorizer regarding to the somewhat loud response to the death metal legends' new opus, 'Illud Divinum Insanus' - including that Hitler video!



“Obviously, we've had a lot of internal dialogue about this," admits the singer. "My tour manager said, 'Do you wanna see something interesting?', and he brought up the initial reviews of The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper...' record. People were calling it a piece of crap and saying it was uninspired, and now it's like, 'Are you fucking kidding me? This is one of their best records!' The old reviews said that it doesn't sound like their old stuff, so this [kind of reaction] is nothing new. I would put this on the same level as what happened to us on 'Blessed Are The Sick' – the only difference is that there wasn't the internet.”



The band have also seen the infamous video in which a subtitled Hitler slates the new album - the band's first for eight years - and even suggests that "Bodycount want their lyrics back".



“It's absolutely hilarious!" David enthuses. "Somebody's spent a lot of time on that – and it wasn't me! But it's great that people are being creative in their response to what we're doing, and it's engaging.”

The Beatles' shit didn't sound like their old shit because they were INNOVATING. Doing something NEW.



The new Morbid Angel sounds different because they're taking existing (and outdated) musical styles and adding it to a watered-down version of their own sound. Maybe we'll have an Idiocracy-like future and people will come to worship Illud, but it sure as shit won't be due to its non-existent innovation.

Because some musical styles are old, there never outdated, even techno gabber music is timeless whether you like it or not (I don't).



The mistake this band has made is that they lost their intensity in whatever music they chose to play. I blame for instance the use of these deadstops in I am morbid & Existo vulgore and there should be more interesting riffs and grooving beatings on the album.



I do like the Type o negative-like singing bit in Too extreme! What about you guys? This could be exploited much more!

I find it lacking that David didn't address to this video while referencing to the World of shit/Untermensch thingy.

Totally, and that's the main point. It's all about silver-tongued salesmanship now. Did you see slimegod's new video post of the Vincent interview from '96? Total charisma and focus on the music. No weird antics or hyperbole. Just watching him describe the lyrics and how MA is an exclusive style of heavy music back then is seeing an entirely different Vincent now.
