Hahahahaha nice to see someone did something useful with the interview I uploaded.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. I'm talking to you, Trey!
I don't blame Disco D 100%, 'cause I think Trey also wrote some un-death metal stuff. But I did think he was entirely too passive about the lyrics and whatnot.

This is why Domination is the least intresting album (after illud ofc.) and Formulas is the most intresting album.

After the illud release, i've got confused as Trey's going totally opposite to what he said.
I think Its some thing conceptual or maybe whats happening is, "LSD is controlling Trey".
As DiscoD said "Strength is always there in music". So where the fuck is that strength, most of the illud tracks are discoD- buttdancing.

My guess is that Trey will say "things change and evolve, I'm not going to be beholden to an interview I did 10 years ago, etc, etc."
I also guess he doesn't feel this is industrial music, but "hardcore techno", which maybe is different for the hardcore fan, but is the same for most of the typical MA fans.

I think it's useless to use things David and Trey said back in 1996 - 1998 to explain what's going on today as far as Illud goes.
They have both grown and think differently about their band, music and image nowadays than back then.
Bottom line to me is; I appreciate that they want to do what they do, wether it's something I like or not. Personally, I don't like Illud at all - it has some cool moments but nothing very memorable. Now, to use things from interviews from over 10 years ago totally makes no sense to me.
People change.

All I can say is that all the David bashing that's going around the internet is just too much. Trey wrote those techno things as well. Why put all the "blame" on David? (Also I think "blaming" someone for a musical direction that a band takes, isn't correct). Another thing I'd like to say is that everybody who's whining about how David looks in Genitorturers should keep their mouth shut. It's completely obvious that one would use a different image or clothing for one band and another dress code for the other band. It's simply to empower the band's image. For example, if I would play in a death metal band and also a corpsepainted-black metal band, I wouldn't go on stage wearing spikes and corpsepaint in my death metal band, or vice versa.
Basically I believe they both had equal say in the production and writing of Illud.

I do find it curious that Trey had no idea what the lyrics to Domination here until they got into the studio. Granted, he did blame his own ignorance to blame for anything he didn't like going on at the time and didn't throw David under the bus (he went there with him).
Trey knows what's going on and no way he can say he had no idea about what was going on with this record. I would love to finally hear a Trey interview where they get down to the nitty gritty about (whether he agrees or not), understanding why people are upset and being in their shoes, change in lyrical approach, etc.
And Radikult was definitely them "baiting" the fans. Same thing with Meap Culpa (which I like) as the last track and "This is your final warning" in the beginning on Too Extreme!

Agree 100%.
As for Evil D's Genitorturers look, it has nothing to do with Morbid Angel, but everything to do with being fucking funny as shit, and therefore worthy of being goofed on mercilessly.

16 yrs later, Dave and Trey brought shame and massive dissapointment releasing this mountain of pure raw shit.

I understand your loyality and friendship to MA but there are a few things about their situation that we will not bend on.
For one, any argument from the sales perspective is not a persuading one. Lady gaga sells millions of records, this doesn't put her
on the "true-musician's" list. The fact is, and I've said it before, it would not be surprising that MA does monetarily better on this
album than any other. The herd out weigh the rare individuals out there who comprise any sort of demographic. However, had MA released
something integral to what MA actually is - what we have known them to be, which is acutely part of their identity no matter how diverse their albums
were in the past - in this day and age, I think they would have done quite well monetarily and remained true to the MA brand. And before you go off on that comment
understand this: no body can argue what Trey and David feel as individuals in what they want to express in any given time period. But to put in under the MA umbrella
gets our goat, or at least mine. The truest of the fanbase and speaking for myself directly, I never found any previous MA material to be this foreign; this alien to what
MA is. This muach anybody can agre on. What follows from that naturally, for us are feelings of shame and disappointment. You can't argue those things away for us. David's and
Trey's self contradictions from all of these past interviews are its own advocate!
That identity, no matter how many variations of it in the past, stayed true in the past. (I never had such repulsive feelings for an MA record in the past. GOE is no expection. I would
even venture to say, any true MA fan based on what MA has always been, never reacted so poorly to GOE as some alleged fans that you mentioned. I'd even say that those fans
then are probally not part of this MA camp that can pinpoint when they hear true MA.) This album is something else, for somebody else, all in all not for the lot of us.

That pretty much sums up what every die-hard MA fan feels on this, TrascendingMusic.
For me (And this may sound a little freak) all this thing has been like being naked and suddenly thrown away into the void.
F-G-H not only had a richer sound, but also the spiritual fulfillment that some of us experienced when listening to those records is something that surely you won't find it again. You can feel the energy flowing, the power, the mystique...
By the way it sounds and its lyrical content, you can tell IDI is devoided of those things.

Everyone is correct. IDI does not target any one person/demographic.

Lady Gaga and how much she sucks. I guarantee she will outplay anyone on this message board.

Well, I nor does any true fan here want "a little something". We want, as previous albums supplied, a holistic creative album that does not compromise the identity
of who the band is. I don't want to calmber about a record picking and choosing parts or some songs as something I could potentially enjoy. This is not about utility, this is
uncompromising art that should not relegate its identity in order to appease everyone.
I coudln't care less what she is "trained in". The question remains do we get creative classical music from her?
I'm not sure what your music business comment really denotes but I can tell you this: there is a way to express a brand whilst being
loyal to what that brand is. MA have done this - already.

Look man, I don't want to argue ideology.
At the end of the day, these guys are putting out (what they consider) to be art.
That's it. You either like it or you don't. They drag is the haters that want to ruin it for those that do like it.
If only the negative forces could just accept that there are going to be no changes for you, no matter how much you hate something, we can all move forward and enjoy the next 2 years of touring that this record brings with it.
On one hand you keep saying to be "true"....to who?
True to themselves or to YOUR taste in music.

Sure I wouldn't want to argue ideology either purely because it would be based on idealism or mere opinion. My argument is not about that at all. It's simply about
integrity to a brand. And like I've said before, those guys as individuals are of course free to do and think and create whatever the hell they desire. But don't pass
the buck when it comes to adhereing to a degree of integrity and loyality to a brand you've created where tons and tons of fans of that particular brand are following you and supporing you.
there is no excuse for that. Don't abuse that brand by passing it along as something else and then call those loyal fans morons or non intellects because we "are not getting it".
Move on to something else at that point. Leave the dignity intact. Don't bite off the hand that fed you. To say that we "ruin it" for others who like it is absurd. If you are that dissuaded by another's
words, then your like of something is very very questionable at best.
EDIT: to answer your belated question: true to the brand. this point can not be any clearer. That's the superlative, it must be! Otherwise, create music for yourself in your basement.
Or if they want to be true to themselves, move on as something else and share that with another "world".

I see it opposite to you. If they were to make music to placate the base...that is selling out by definition.
The brand name of G.E. used to be to make lightbulbs....now it spans a huge market that includes multimedia outlets.
The Morbid Angel brand is whatever the creative element within it decides it is....not you.
Your responsibility here is to be the end consumer. Yes, you have officially logged your public and formal complaint.
Other than that, I am not sure what else the band or I can do to accommodate you.
What would you have me do?
What would make you happy?
Anything that resembles "making a different record" simply is not going to happen so everyone can just stop yappin about it and come see the show when it comes to your town....they will still be playing Rapture.

When you create a brand, the only expectation within that is to deliver a similiarity with inventiveness. When have MA done this? A - H.
When you break the vibe, essence, and impact you once made with this brand then it is something else. When have MA done this? I.
You keep resorting to being true to themselves but if you are expressing yourself artistically but also in a business sense then there is no
major digression to be tolerated such as I. if you want to constantly change "your sound" then you need to change the conveying of that new sound. It otherwise makes for lousy business and fan loyality.
I don't want anything from the band other than calling a spade a spade. Stop debasing the classic MA camp because we refuse to embrace I. Stop
trying to convince us "it's all good" or that the individuals within are the true expression, these are tenious excuses for writing off any kind of consistency in favor
of forced change. Call it for what it is.

Well..since I have been with the guys since Cov...
I can tell you they have consistently been beaten up by the base every time they decide to do something different...which is every record.
The David people hated Tucker, the Tucker people hated Jerrod....it goes on and on.
There is plenty of traditional Morbid stuff for you and the rest of the base on this record.
There are a few songs on this record that may not work for you.
There are more songs on this record than previous efforts by the band.
Why should those that enjoy the record for what it is have to endure all of this negativity?
Come to the show and have a good time man and knock off all of this other stuff which does nobody any good and will not change anything.

To Punchy: do you find the people on this board that don't like this or that album to be ruining it for everyone else? Isn't it just discussion among people with common interests? It's a discussion board, not a Morbid Angel worship party. Nobody has to endure anything (much like we can hit "skip" when "I Was Morbid" comes on).
I've used the word "true" as well. I think they're being true to themselves now as always (I'm just not into it). But over 20-odd years there's been a Morbid Angel sound/vibe/direction established. And that's remained a constant throughout the slow stuff, the fast stuff, the different production styles, interludes, etc. They did something consistently and that's what we know as Morbid Angel. IDI doesn't feel like it's true to THAT. Which is a different thing altogether than "true to themselves," and which is fine, I just think that "we're moving in a different direction now" is more genuine than "this is as extreme as anything we've done, we always do something different, etc." Yeah, but not THIS different. And it's just a pet peeve of mine, but "we've moved beyond death metal" annoys me. I don't think they're "beyond" it at all, I just think they're way outside of it on a lot of songs. Which, again, is fine, but I see a distinction there.
Morbid Angel didn't make death metal records for 20 years to placate the base, they made death metal records because that's what Morbid Angel DID. Now they do something different. I accept it. Evil D made a great analogy once about going to a cafeteria and taking whatever they put on your tray, versus going somewhere else where you can choose what you want and leave the rest behind. Well, now they do something different, and I choose to leave that stuff behind. And I'm sure they don't care; that's not the point.
We're not lodging formal complaints, we're talking about something we're passionate about. Isn't that what a themed message board is for? Nobody expects you or Trey et al. to do anything to make us happy.
"They'll still be playing Rapture" is really condescending, dude. Why the attitude? As if we don't realize that the back catalog is still there for us.
Oh, and the only reason I may not go see them is because they've had a really similar set list for a long time. If I found out that they're gonna start playing Brainstorm and Chambers of Dis, I'd check it out, even if they play Radikult as well.

I'll tell you what, I will always embrace Morbid, well the old MA. It's not like i will throw out my CD's now based on this. But I am defnitely not a present-day fan for sure.
What you say about the record and about accepting the remotely close to death metal music you would expect that's on Illud I can't except. That comes down to opinion again
and to be iterative, I am not arguing based on opinion but something that can be quantified. Fans of this new MA should be able to and must be able to endure "negativity" surrounding it
if they are to claim they truly like it. Just as we would have to endure their subjective projections confused with true identity of said brand. But anything short of them being influenced by
what we say really puts the question mark against them. Not to mention, we are not holding anybody hostage here! Nobody has to "endure" anything we say at all. Just as I do not physically remove the right
from those who like I to like I.
I can't speak for those so-called fans of the past, only for myself and others here who harbor the same sentiment. That is, every past record and what MA has done I embraced and supported
whole-heartedly and without hesitation. not because of my whatever investment into the band but simply because i wanted to; I was compelled to because of the music and impact. Man I remember
seeing GOe for the first time on headbanger's ball and my jaw was on the floor; I was truly and utterly inspired and mezmerized by it. Obviously, there are enough fans such as myself that
give way to edify the fact that those who ripped on MA back in the day when MA was always MA are not to be compared to us fans now who see through this record as a true MA album. There is
enough collective thought that agrees it's not backed by the fact that it objectively sounds like MA. So even though I get your point, the fan based bashing comparscent is apples and oranges.

We just view this subject differently.
BTW...I was not trying to be condescending with the Rapture thing.
I was trying to hammer home the point that Morbid is Morbid when you come see them.
I will tell you what.....
Maybe we can convince a Mod here to start a thread about what they want to see live.
I can take the results to them directly and see what is possible.
I know that David wants to play more material from the Tucker era because of the fans and their love of those records.
Personally, I want to see Enshrined by Grace live again.
All of these type of things are being addressed by the guys for this tour....so everyone knows.
What say the floor?
What songs can they drop from the set and what songs should they add?

I can take the results to them directly and see what is possible.
I know that David wants to play more material from the Tucker era because of the fans and their love of those records.
Personally, I want to see Enshrined by Grace live again.
All of these type of things are being addressed by the guys for this tour....so everyone knows.
What say the floor?
What songs can they drop from the set and what songs should they add?

Invocation of the continual one would be great!
Would love to see Prayer of Hatred live! also Summoning redemption, Ageless still I am or Secured Limitations. From Heretic, Enshrined is a nice choice indeed, and Stricken Arise!

Damnation, Thy Kingdom come, Abominations, The Ancient ones, Lions den & Vengeance is mine I'd love to see performed live. They almost played the complete Covenant album anyway but lacked these highlights! I was pleasantly surprised by Angel of disease!
Chambers of dis, Stricken arise & Heaving earth from the Tucker era would also be great!

Several more Tucker era tunes and I'd actually consider going again.

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. I'm talking to you, Trey!
Those who learn from history are surrounded by those doomed to repeat it.

All David needs to do is learn about 1 - 2 songs from each of the tucker era albums and that would be fantastic
I accidently wrote this in the Heretic thread too. My bad

hehe, that's true.
He's got Bil Ur Sag done. So I'd say Prayer of Hatred or chamber of dis for another fiery song from that album.
Hard to pick two from Gateways that I can see David singing. I'm not sure Summoning would be pulled off very well tbh. It might lose a lot of it's power vocally and seem like it starting to drag on as a consequence. Maybe At one with nothing would suit him better and To the victor the spoils.
Heretic: I can see Enshrined by Grace sounding good with his voice and stricken arise. Since that has high vocals anyway, and a mid range vocal would still cut it. But that song might lose some identity because of that. Maybe Within thy enemy for a short sharp song that would fit his style vocally and not drag the set on too much.

It is too hard for him to do, that is why he does not play them
There is no longer any control

Yeeeah, the last time I saw a video of him doing Bil Ur-Sag, it wasn't quite up to par. The mesopotamian bits made me cringe. I imagine I would puke if I heard him attempt the Sumero/Akkadian in Invocation of the Continual One.

How true.

Really, it isn't that hard to remember the lyrics.
My list of songs that I'd love to see added to the live set:
Suffocation
Brainstorm (PLEASE!!! One of the best MA songs ever.)
Day of Suffering
World of Shit
Heaving Earth
Chambers of Dis
Nothing is Not
Summoning Redemption
Cleansed in Pestilence
Curse the Flesh
Stricken Arise

both day of suffering and world of shit have been on the setlists since DV joined up again. i know they definitely played both the last time they came thru worcester. solid list, otherwise!
off the top of my head, i'd really really like to see:
suffocation
brainstorm
abominations
ancient ones
lion's den
heaving earth
invocation
ageless
victor
god of the forsaken... well, not really on account of no rutan, but it's a nice thought anyway.
can't think of what i'd want off heretic off the top of my head. need to listen to that some more but there's easily two or three off there i'd love to see represented once again
plus a large chunk of what's already in the current rotation. i'd probably need at least a 2 hour set to be fully satisfied

I saw him live mumbling the lyrics, and it was pretty bad. The worst part is that it appears that it's not that he is not able to do it (hell, he has always had the ability to articulate really well whatever he's growling), but that he is unwilling to learn it and do it. Punchy said that Dave is willing now, so we'll see.
Really, it isn't that hard to remember the lyrics.
Yeah, but in his defense, much of the FFF lyrics' patterns are really fast paced and there are a lot of words, so it takes time. But not 5-8 years time, that's for sure.
