MORBID ANGEL Remix Album Due Next Year - Oct. 29, 2011

Alexandre Locher (also known as Xytras or Xy) of Swiss industrial black metallers SAMAEL has just remixed the song "Existo Vulgor" for the MORBID ANGEL remix album, due to be released early next year via Season Of Mist.

MORBID ANGEL's latest album, "Illud Divinum Insanus", sold around 3,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 141. The effort marks MORBID ANGEL's first CD to feature bassist/vocalist David Vincent since 1995's "Domination".

MORBID ANGEL's previous album, "Heretic", opened with around 3,900 units back in October 2003. That CD has shifted more than 30,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

"Illud Divinum Insanus" was released on June 7 (one day earlier internationally) via Season of Mist. The cover artwork was designed by Gustavo Sazes.

When asked in a recent interview with Finland's Kaaos TV how the material from "Illud Divinum Insanus", has been going over live, David Vincent said, "[The fans] love it live. A few people, maybe some of the songs on the record are a bit too extreme for them, but by and large it's a great record. It's doing really well. A lot of excitement. We're happy to play all these songs live. Obviously, [in] the set we also include a lot of the other classics. This way everyone will have a chance to hear a lot of the different songs that they wanna hear."

Regarding whether he and his bandmates expected to get such a mixed reaction to "Illud Divinum Insanus" during the making of the CD, Vincent said, "Well, the only thing we do is make music and we're creative. We don't think about these things so much. We do what we do. My work is done, other than we perform. But the studio is done. We made a record that broke down a lot of boundaries and included some stuff that was never included before. But we've always done these kind of things. It should be no surprise to anyone that we always do crazy things, 'cause we crazy."

Samael is one of my favourite bands. It's sad that I want to buy this album because I like Samael, not because it's new Morbid Angel :oldryan:

This band is lazy as fuck! Making an effortless album, insulting your back catalogue is one thing, rehashing this shit and releasing this is another new low. I hope bad sales will wake them up.

I must admit, I'm a bit curious to hear what they'll do to the songs. The combichrist remix was pretty tame but it was still more interesting than the original. :homework:

I think you can expect Too extreme with hardcore sounding beats. I expect a Remanufacture with gothic/new wave influences.

I fear that, in it's own regard, it might even turn out better then the original album.

If I remember correctly, he also said, there is some NEW songs wich they plan to release late -11 or early -12.

...and sure I will buy the remix album, because it´s Morbid Angel :greenie:

A skinny puppy remix would be amazing... if it happened in 1991. Combining new SP and new MA sounds about as :oldryan: as it gets. :oldryan:::::::::::::

I'm not sure a Skinny Puppy remix between now and then holds the same margin of win/fail as Skinny Puppy songs between now and then. I think the big drop in SP's album quality after reforming has been largely due to the death of Dwayne Goettel. (Dwayne and cEvin were tight partners in the song writing.) I'm pretty sure (though I could be wrong, as I sard looking this up and am working from faulty memory) most of the internal remixes from the older SP era were by cEvin and Dave Ogilvie. Maybe cEvin can do something with the material that won't sound like a turd. I'm reserving judgement for hearing.

I enjoy them right up to the end in ...was it '95? It was nifty for them to get back together to tour but these new albums just should not have happened. They all sound like Ogre's solo work.

i was in uhh, 7th grade when that came out, so it woulda been early '96 i think. it had some good tracks but you could tell they finished writing it after he died. i agree with all the rest :santa:

I was hoping that "remix" meant more audible guitars/lower voice level and the techno shit was replaced by real songs. Guess not.

Does the fact that they are remixing the album this shortly after it's release imply there is some kind of acceptance in the MA camp that the album does indeed blow ?

My guess is that they want to take it further. I'm thinking a Demanufacture-Remanufacture kind of approach in this.

Whereas Demanufacture was already a good album and not as easy to improve, IDI is a mostly shite album leaving it possibly more open for improvement? Interesting theory.
