I must finally admit that Morbid Angel's new album has been one of the most disastrous moments in my life. The release of that album broke something inside of me. There is something gut-wrenching about watching your greatest music heroes, who were a model example of perfect standards, be torn down like this. Everything I had thought about them in the past stands negated. On the one hand, I want to throw them out of my life. But how do you do that to a group which has been such a big part of your life? I recall with clear memory, that it was the rage and aggression in Morbid Angel's music in which I sought comfort during my socially awkward and isolated years at school and early university. Now I can't even watch their rare videos without a feeling of disgust.

It happens. Time to go shopping for a new favorite band. Lots of my old school favorites are doing really stupid things now, if they're still alive, but their old albums are still great albums. Pop one in every now and then and jam to it, find other bands with styles similar to it, but don't linger on that emotional attachment because that makes you gay.



A gentleman I met one midsummer day told me that he was a big Staind fan until Aaron Lewis wrote a song in support of the Tea Party, and now he wishes death upon the man for taking such an incongruous political stance, considering his fanbase and the subject matter of his lyrics (which I was and am not aware of, because I hate Staind)



Death? Really? Does anyone think it's unusual to "feel" strongly for bands or songs? People keep listening to Michael Jackson singles as if he never even thought about touching a little boy's butt. Why? People tell me that they're still great songs.

IDI is so temporally, musically and ideologically estranged from MA's back catalogue that it really has no bearing on how I feel about the albums of theirs that I always loved.

Same here. You just have to admit that it's a fuck up and move on. The old stuff still exists with their old ideology intact for those particular albums. Indeed MA were the biggest reason to get excited for new music last year but I got a couple other bands who's new stuff I'm eagerly awaiting

Anyway there are also good tracks as "Blades for Baal" and "Nevermore". Is not a full shit, is a 80% shit and 20% good.

Morbid Angel have never been my favorite band so it wasn't too bothersome

I'm waiting to see what the next recording is like before I completely write them off. I'm hoping IDI is a failed experiment and they realize they fucked up big time. If the next one is also techno-ridden, then they are dead to me. (Although I'll still enjoy their back catalog.)

Ontopic: I consider Illud Divinum Insanus the same as C old Lake & Risk. A one-time miss. When Morbid Angel has riffs, it's good, when they choose techno, White Zombie or Manowar, they fail. So imho, they should be able to still deliver.

IMO, Illud is one powerful tool, Trey tried to counter the close minded metal scene of today. It was not musically that good like other albums, no one can make good music forever. I am not going to hate the band for just one album, what important is the great music the band created in the past, the massive felling better than anything in world

I don't buy the 'trying to encounter the close minded metal scene of today' rant (by copying Manowar & White Zombie FFS!). Of course there are lots of whining gays that just stick to Cannibal Corpse, Asphyx and still want Martin van Drunen in Pestilence, but It sounds like Trey doesn't know what has been going on in the metal scene the last decennium. Apart from The Berzerker, Atari Teenage Riot, Bong Ra and simular acts that combine extreme metal with extreme techno, there's also techdeath and lots more progressive bands out there.

Exactly they wrote the music for themselves thats what "I" signifies but I was talking about its concepts, fans do not appreciate a band changing its sound, writing music in different direction. All trey wanted to show is that, point of views change and you are not a hypocrite if you wrote music about satan or something like that in that past and now you doing total different thing, so he just wrote the kind of music he is into right now. The album is just something which does not fit our taste. So we better appreciate what we like at the place of dis-appreciating what we do not, its just a piece of music its not going to harm you in any way.

Or probably people are afraid that their friends are going to make fun of them that their favorite band sucks now.

No, that's not what I mean.



IMO there are 3 deviant styles on Illud: I am Morbid is like a Manowar rip-off and Radikult is like a White Zombie rip-off and the techno influence.



Why cruise on the open minded argument when copying 2 bands that are as close minded as possible always doing the same little trick over and over again?



Morbid Angel has already evolved in the past from satanic to self-empowerment. There was never a problem because the music was inspired. Inspiration is what lacks Illud, not the choice of styles.



It's probably understandable; making 8 albums, containing like +/- 80 songs, containing like +/- 320 riffs, one might eventually run out of ideas, unless there's another composer in the band to reflame the spark of creativity, like Lee did to Holt in Exodus.
