Trey Azagthoth Ironbird (for sale)
Posted: 06 May 2012, 16:43
by Anth
Late 80's/Early 90's genuine American made BC Rich Ironbird with reverse headstock.
Morbid Angel Trey Azagthoth replica.
No dings, no dents, no chips, no scratches at all, MINT condition.
As far as I'm aware, this version of this guitar was never freely available for sale to the public.
Complete with optional 'INSTAGIB' decal.
(white vinyl, perfect size 6" long)
Hardcase included, will ship worldwide.
This is one of the most sought after guitars among metal-heads.
Pickups- Dimarzio X2N humbucker in bridge (the most powerful humbucker in Dimarzio's catalogue.)
Neck pickup is single coil sized dual contour-blade humbucker, this is a hot pickup with high output, similar to Dimarzio Fast-Track. It is coil-tapable but is wired in parallel.
All new switchcraft pots with new black toggle switch and a black barrel-jack socket (not ya usual skeleton type)
The neck feels thin and very slender -perfect for shredding (original high gloss lacquer on neck) and the frets are medium-jumbo.
Tremelo system is a full floating Licensed Floyd, as the original Floyd system was looking very old and the threads were very weak on some of the saddles. Tremelo is currently floating with Eb (E-flat) tuning.
Would be happy to re-float the tremelo with any tuning desired by the new owner prior to shipping it.
Strings are Dunlop light top (9) and heavy bottom (46)
Open to realistic offers.
Selling as I own 8 guitars, and as a collector I'm downgrading my collection
Would LOVE it to go to a fan, rather than for someone to buy it and sell it on. Hence the reason I'm posting it on here.
If I'm breaking any forum rules by posting this then I do apologise in advance!

There are several honest situations this could be the result of, and in each case...

I just noticed the "replica" mention in the OP. But still the inclusion of the Instagib sticker is kind of weird.

the only difference to it being an exact copy is I bought it with a reverse headstock, which I preferred the look of.
Also, I chose different pickups as I prefer the sound of the X2N's and wanted to black blade type neck pickup to match, rather than 'pole' pickups which would have been difficult to lineup with the strings exactly. Reason is when a pickup is angled like the neck one is, the distance between magnetic poles changes. Doesn't make a huge amount of difference to sound but I'm very anal about stuff like that. Blade pickups are also much better for bending notes as opposed to pole pickups as the sound doesn't 'drop off' as you bend the string.
I'm intrigued to find out why anyone thinks this is anything other than a genuine post?
I've been a fan since 1989 and bought the original Grindcore compilation L.P released by Earache before Altars Of Madness was released, I still got the vinyl LP, which was purchased the week is was released. I'm now almost 40 years old! LOL and have been collecting guitars for many years, even tho I'm a drummer

Your add looks very genuine, and some other boardmembers don't read properly.
How did you get it btw, when it's not has been available to the public?
It's an awesome guitar!

Cheers Buddy. Thank you for your kind words rather than someone trying to point the finger of 'scam'.
Its a genuine ad, cos I genuinely own it, its sat hanging on the wall with 7 other of its buddies hahaa. Its best buddies are an ESP RZK Rammstein and a genuine Ace Frehley Les Paul. (I get so pissed at the amount of fakes, but mine is a genuine serial number checked with proof).
Anyhow, more to the point of my Ironbird.
It started life as a dual humbucker version (American made) which i bought a lot of years ago now.
The guitar was completely stripped down and the neck cavity was modified by a luthier at considerable expense, and the body spray painted Rosso Italia Red (Ferrari) by Fiona, the owner of Air Devils Ltd.

So what pickups trey used in his ironbird ? PAF Pro ?
IMO these BC rich headstocks are ugly those which Trey's ironbird had are fucking

Cheers Anjel, I'm open to offers. Hardcase included, shipped worldwide with insurance and tracking.
I'm happy to do whatever you say for me to prove that I own this guitar, to prove its genuine. Pic of my face beside it, datestamped pic, whatever!
I'd stick it on FleaBay but I'm reluctant to do so as its such a 'specialist' item.
Yah DemonSeed I ain't a fan of modern Widow BC Rich headstocks either. I agree the shape of Trey's is the best ever. (identical to mine, but mine is a reverse headstock, which i think looks better still)
I'm not entirely sure what pickups Trey used in his Ironbird, but I'm lead to believe it was a factory fitted Humbucker on his bridge, which at the time was a high quality pickup for sure, at that point in BC Rich history with his model.
He later modified the guitar with an angled single coil type pickup, of which model wise i have no idea.
---
i do actually own some digital pics of as it was, as the work going into its transformation, both with the luthier and with Fiona from Air Devils, who i sent the body to.
Air Devils is the company who did work on the helmets for the British winter olympics teams helmets and so on. Hugely respected air brushing company here in the UK.
I originally bought the guitar to transfom it into as closely as I possibly could into a Trey Azagthoth replica. It has been done with so much care and attention that unless I said it started life as a dual humbucker version, you'd never know. Body is maple.
The only bits and details that I wanted for myself (non-standard Trey stuff) was the reverse headstock (gotta have that!) and the X2N pickup (my tribute to Chuck Schuldiner from DEATH) with its Fast-Track neck pickup.
Sounds freakin awesome.

Sorry bud, my bad, misunderstood.
Yeah, that headstock there. I've looked at mine, the shape, contour and stuff and there ain't much in it at all, other than that blue one looks slightly bigger

She's a beaut.
I also like the leather seat on which she is sitting.
Reminds me of luxuary cars and makes me wonder what it'd be like to have my ass in one.
Best case scenario would be driving down the road, sitting in some grey puffed leather, playing that Ironbird with the headstock poking out the gay man's telescope.
Car comes the other way. Bang! There goes the headstock.
hard-on bearer pulls up: it's Trey. He thinks it's his fault cos he's all off his crackers on ecstacy pipes, so he gives you a signed copy of All I Wanna Do is Dive in Some Boy's Arse Pouch to make it up to you.
Cheers hard-on bearer.
So, anyway, I'd better get back to work here.

Nevermind the headstock - Trey changed and changes his neck on the ironbird all the time. Well not all the time, but you know he's customizing it now and then.

also, trey's ironbird has(had?) a class axe era bc rich neck. the pointed headstocks class axe produced during their ownership were vastly different than the original pointed and the "classic" ones yours has and they still produce

This ain't a class axe guitar, they sucked balls BIG TIME. Terrible quality. I had a Bich one, and it was terrible. Firewood.... really really bad.

I live just a few miles away from that Air Devils place. Never even heard of it
Very cool guitar to look at, but it's probably not really worth paying that price. From a players perspective, that licensed floyd is gonna need replaced which would set you back another £200. If it's just some generic LFR, which it looks like, there is no chance it will stand up to the abuse of Trey style whammying.
