What were Trey's Metal influences

He always stats in his interviews that he is influenced from van halen and mozart, once he was talking about Michael Schenkar. But what about metal bands that had influence on him ?
I may have read it somewhere but cannot recall it, please enlighten me.

I can recommend you check the thankslists of the records.
Mercyful Fate might be mentioned, but to me it's crystal clear: Morbid Angel started with high pitched vocals and those typical catchy melodics also found on the early MF records. Halfway through BATS those guitarmelodies disappeared.

He used to wear Incantation and Vader shirts, so I'm guessing he liked them at some point, although I'm not sure if they actually influenced him in any way. He was friends with Mike Davis of Nocturnus, and even mentioned how he was trying to pattern a solo off the song Andromeda Strain in a video of him rehearsing. Check out the :30-:40 mark and listen to what he says carefully -

well mercyful fate, venom ect were the bands they must be listening back then, but trey never cited any major influences.
Even if he is asked or not he do takes Van halen names in every interview.

look at the notes inside the albums.
I think some have "all hail" kinda thing, as oppose to "thanks to..." - those ones are probably ones he was influenced by to a certain degree.

Compare the first 2 MF albums with AOD or AOM on the sense of melody and you should know what I mean.

Don't mean to stir stuff up but I don't hear any Mercyful Fate influence in MA. MF was/is traditionally melodic. I can't picture Trey and his "chaotic" style playing those songs. Trey did say he was heavily influenced by Possessed and "Seven Churches" from an old issue of Guitar School.

T: I was very influenced by rather old bands when I was growing up back in the late 70's, early 80's; I had a good time listening to bands like JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH, VAN HALEN, UFO, SCORPIONS... This is before there were bands like SLAYER or METALLICA. When SLAYER, METALLICA and MERCYFUL FATE came out I was very interested and very excited by their new approach of music. I listened to some VENOM and Ozzy... I wanted to make a band with the feeling of the early SLAYER, MERCYFUL FATE, BLACK SABBATH with Ozzy, Jimi Hendrix...

T: I am planning to get some MORBID ANGEL songs such as "Blood on my hands" , "They are suffering", "Fall from grace", and have an orchestra playing them. No guitars. Just violins, cellos, horns, only classical instruments. To me the feeling these songs are very classical.
This needs to happen!

That occurs to me as a lie,probably to cover up the real reason, as this interview is from 1996 and Eric returned several times. Maybe the short return of Richard Brunelle or Erik having his own reasons for not wanting to be in the band anymore at the time?
