It´s a shame he has to miss out on another Dave-Pete-Trey album

I'm really sad about this but I hope Pete has a great recovery. And I really hope he is able to make a comeback and play for Morbid Angel once again.
I don't really have much to say about Tim playing on the album.

It's a shame it had to come to this at this time for Pete. Hope his recovery goes well.
Now based on the massive tower of win that is the first Hate Eternal record, I definitely wouldn't say that I'm disappointed that Tim Yeung is filling in temporarily for Pete. He'll do the job just fine.

The same people that was MEH-ing about Steve Tucker back in ´98 will probably continue doing the same thing now
I wish the best luck for Petes recorvery and support Tim Yeung to 100%

If anybody can do it, Tim can. I'm very interested in how this is going to work out creatively.
Tim proves very reliant to the creativity of the collegues he works with at that moment:
Hate Eternal and Agiel worked out great, but Council of the fallen was kinda meh;
plus he replaces a drummer with a particular style and years of practice with Trey.
Hopefully Pete wil recover completely and hopefully regain his top-drumskills again.
Good thing it's all official now.

Actually this could be a very interesting development. A new bandmember might give a breath of fresh creative air like on Formulas'
I wonder what is going to differ also: Do they use the same drumkit set up with the same tuning?
Pete is endorsed by:
Avis
Sabian
Pearl
Attack drumheads
Pro-mark
Danmar
I always suspected that the over-digital triggering was a way of covering up Pete's drumming weaknesses, since he seem to have back pain for who knows how many years now, surpressing it with cocaine/other painkillers.

Pete has been triggering forever, it's not an excuse for mistakes.

I do agree with your first point, for other reasons though...
As far as the triggers go, it's quite the opposite. If you don't play accurately and up to snuff, all the triggers will do is actually accent that. Triggers are a tone thing, they help with attack and tone to cut thru a mix. By that virtue, they are revealing sonically, not necessarily an aid for playing.
When my band DR was more active about 9 years ago, we jammed with Yeung up in Rochester. We did a lot of MA covers to warm up and to feel each other's playing out. It was awesome. But I have to say hearing Tim play now, it's like leaps and bounds apart from how he used to play. In other words he got that much better. Putting aside assessing the new MA album as a whole, I have no doubt in Tim's playing in and of itself. He's a very accurate and fruital drummer.

Ok thanks for the info! I get the feeling that Tim might add some more brutalness to the new record than Pete would've..

I'm sure Tim will do a great job. I imagine he'll stay true to the Pete/MA style, while contributing a bit creatively an bring a little something new to the table.

I wonder if Tim will attempt to out perform Pete on this album, not in creativity but skill . Like if Tim does a bunch of crap that Pete wouldn't be able to pull off when and if he returns to death metal drumming.

This is very bad news; although I have no doubt about Tim's abilities* to me Pete and Trey are MA. Not just his creativity (what was that song where he did the all the drum tracks and told Trey to write the rest; Chambers of Dis?) but him and Trey embody the whole MA attitude, message, vision and brutality.
According to the news though it seems like it's a temporary solution until Pete has recovered (if he ever does, it sounds like a very painful ordeal)

If he can play the kicks on "Opening of the Gates" without ProTools, then I think he'll suffice!

the plot thickens.
i am even more keen on this album now, with two different members to heretic, it's gonna be a trip the way F was to D

Is Thor strictly a touring guitarist or will he be on the CD?

Hi all, first post here
I believe Trey writes most if not all of the drum parts (it was like that on heretic) so I'm not expecting anything different in the drum creativity department. Still s*cks that Pete won't be recording it though. I wonder how the kit will sound, probably overtrigged in the typical MA fashion.
Still stocked to hear the album

Pete will probably still contribute some keyboard-pieces.

Indeed, compared to Heretic, Trey is the only active member now, quite a difference I now realize
The chance that the new record will be like a new fresh start has only increased methinks

Good question, was he creating at Zyklon already btw?

I bet Thor will be on this album, if he doesn't contribute any riffage then most definitely some solos

It will be very strange hearing an album without Pete behind the drums. Now, we have just to wait for more months for the album, I hope it will be a fruital one, Morbid Angel style!

Aren't we forgetting David here? I mean, in the past, he has been a significant part of the songwriting. I bet he does his part on this one too.

I agree with you.
Personally, I hope he fits the lyrics to the rythm of the riffs like it is done on Blessed are the sick.

So does Tim. Think about it; this is an honor that it never occurred to him that he'd get. I guarantee he grew up drumming to Morbid songs.

My thoughts exactly.
Also, If and when Pete decides to return he will be fitter and healthier than he's been in a LONG time. He's been in constant pain for years and has looked visibly shaken all the time.

I'm not worried at all about Tim Yeung being the new MA drummer. He'll do fine. I hope however Pete can still do some sort of contribution to the band somehow.
