I got a mail from the editor of Metalized (the oldest danish Metal magazine) 5 mins ago asking me to do an interview with David Vincent this coming Sunday. I will be doing a 3 page special on the new album and will therefore get the chance to listen to the album in the coming days, about a month before it's release. Can't fucking wait.

Cool, will you be taping the interview? If so blog it. Try to make it a little deeper than the typical Kerrang type of supeficial interviews. I'd really like to hear his take on the lyrical side of things and how that evolved from Altars till now. And the collaboration on those ideas between him and Trey. The way they had to work on finding some middle ground after their growing apart in the domination era etc...

Being on the internet prevents me from knowing if you're serious or not, but if you are, then yes, yes they do still exist. There is often raves near where I live, fun stuff usually. Sometimes you get a lot of weirdos there though.



Anywayssssss... to the OP, if you're taking questions from here could you PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE ask him why he doesn't do songs from F-H? I've asked him myself (although not in a face to face way), I know other people have asked him, but each time he just seems to ignore it. If you do ask him he'll probably ignore it again, but I guess it's worth a shot?

no, i really didn't know i knew a bunch of kids in high school who went to raves often but that was pretty much the last i'd heard of them and we're coming up on a decade since then, so i thought maybe raves had gone the way of the dinosaurs and such like

I'm also interested to hear Davids (and other members) reasons for not playing F-H material live? One song played does not make an exception. I would also like to know how much pressure for selecting song titles to set list comes from promoters when they are heading for a show/tour?

I just read the interview David did for Legacy and it seems that David doesn't differentiate between Death Metal and non Death Metal songs. To them it's all ACTUAL songs. So that's obviously what they wanted to write. But I will ask into it of corpse.

Maybe a question about the current condition of Pete? Will he return for a J album?

I will get into that. David already answered that question for Legacy (I will ask him the question anyway since a lot of people don't read German). Pete's condition is sadly much more severe than they originally thought. It can take years before he's able to play a show again. That's why they ended up using Tim. There was no way they could wait for another 2 years. They tried to do it with him at first but it was so painful and in the end it just got too dangerous. They didn't want to push him to a point where they would cause him permanent damage. So right now it's really uncertain whether Pete will play again full time again. Ever. It depends on how he heals. It can take anything from 6 months to 3 years.

if i remember correctly he had at least a couple of herniated discs. which can be pretty severe w/r/t loads of physical activity and sitting both. if he had had back problems and played through them for years they'd have only gotten worse

Poor hard-on bearer :( It's really sad to read that for Pete and for the band. If I look at a death metal band (with a big industrial vibe) with Thor Tim Trey and Dave, I find it hard to call them Morbid Angel :/ Pete is a huge part of the spirit, essence and image of Morbid Angel.

What do they plan for Morbid Angel after the extensive touring...

he obviously won't comfirm it if they know already that they will probably brake up after the next 2 years of touring, but if that's not the case, he would clear a lot of doubts if he says they're absolutely going to continue the band after that and make more albums.

And if so, would they plan on continuing Illud's concept on the Next one?

According to Michael Weikath from Helloween (some) promoters do insist sometimes that certain songs are played. And then you would have the three-way-cup between Fans, Bands and Promoters who make the shows. :(

I asked him about Moynihan six years ago in Amsterdam and he said he didn't speak to him anymore and that it was a phase he was going through. This was as a result of my questioning his political beliefs and how I thought that the infamous Kerrang interview had caused a lot of upset. He almost went as far as saying that Moynihan was not a good influence to have in his life. He also said he only said controversial things because he thought Morat was a dick!



He told me he thought the three albums were different but not necessarily what he would have done.



Are you going to ask about his political beliefs, whether or not Trey told him to keep 'fingers' and 'triggers' out of the lyrics etc?

I don't think that's interesting at this point. At least not in the context of this interview. What I really want to know is how him and Trey settled their differences as far as the new lyrics goes. That seems a little more relevant right now.

Surely one of the main differences that they would have to settle would be Trey's opinion that David's lyrics were becoming worldy and not spiritual? I assume that a lot of that came form David becoming much more interested in worldly matters i.e. politics.



David told me that it became very difficult to work within the constaints of MA at that time and that him and Trey were two big personalities that were struglling to be in the same band.



Reading between the lines, it was obvious that there was a series difference in ideologies. If that is the case, then either David has left the potentially dodgy stuff behind, as he indicated, or Trey has embraced it, which is hardly likely. Seems pretty relevant, therefore, to touch on the political side of things.



Maybe you're right though, might not work in context and potentially stir up a hornets' nest!? Will be great to do the interview and listen to the album, lucky you.



Mind you, you could ask him about the nameless leader in the BATS thanks list.........

If you know that David is the dominant bandmember now, saving the band from dissolvement and leading the band on while Trey has been all the in-between years out partying with drugs instead of writing more riffs, (that's why I indeed expected the initial 6 drumtracks were to become only 6 songs) it's already easy to conclude that Trey has given in on a lot of factors.

Trey isn't the big personality anymore, but has become weak (compared to David) in his backbone as well as in his playing skills. Ironically Pete has a lot more backbone and I'm sure that with him on board, this album would've turned out a lot different...

Ha ha! Don't disagree with you regarding Pete. Although not quite as an extreme situation, it's kind of like the Metallica question - would they ever have got so crap if Cliff had survived?



I was just at Neurotic Deathfest and the posters they had of MA all round the venue were pretty awful. MA does not look like a band I'd want to see that much anymore. They look almost glam! Although David always had a bit of that about him. He looks like he want to be in non make up Kiss!
