I had a very fruital ego-death experience to begin with. But I think I'm back in control. Almost...

why hasn't this leaked yet

It blew me through the roof. Honestly. This works for me. 100%. I haven't been able to get into a Death Metal album in a million years and this really gets to me. It's Morbid Angel from beginning to end. Too Extreme is just mind-blowing. The "choir" passage melted my ears. Fucking brilliant. Even the more dodgy tracks like I Am Morbid and Radikult worked for me. Poisonous riffing and insane attention to detail. Some of Trey's most "out there" work is definitely to be found on this record.



And Thors tracks are just beautiful. I always regarded Myrkskog as crap but Maybe I should check them out?



There's nothing "clubby" about Illud. The electronic influences is very much in line with the early Industrial Strength compilations and raw shit like Delta 9.



You can really hear the work that was put into this product. It's so far from being a rehash of older material. Yet totally and distinctly Morbid Angel.



How can you make a bunch of Hardcore techno beats with weird guitar riffing sound like Morbid Angel you ask me? That's a secret only Trey Azagthoth knows.

Biased by what? Being a fan since 93? I think we're all biased in that case. I would be the first to call a crapfest just that. Still it's only my opinion of course. Someone who was hoping for Covenant part 2 will be disappointed. No two cents about it. You'd have to be pretty ignorant to expect that though..

Is there is any solo played by thor through out the album ?

Well, reviewer's thoughts on EV are completely different than mine's, so I am pretty reserved about this review. Still, at least it's the first positive one. I must say about those 'master of the world' lyrics - pretty in line with what David wrote on D, maybe even taken further. So, I would really like to hear the answer from both David and Trey as to where and how did they manage to find middle ground for their co-operation. Yeah, paradigm shifting and all that mumbo jumbo, but I am actually amazed.

The one in Blades For Ball is to my knowledge played by Thor and it's AMAZING. It's just as good as anything Rutan ever wrote (and I like Rutan) and a totally unique addition to the Morbid Angel catalogue. Very atmospheric in an almost Formulas kind of way. I'm really impressed with the stuff Thor has written for the album. 10 More Dead is an awesome track as well. Especially the Gateways'esque ending.

Thank you so much. It's very hard for me to pick any favorites already... But probably Too Extreme! and Nevermore. I don't know... I really like the rest as well. I think Illud is much better judged as a whole.

I think the message of the band means a lot to Trey. He wrote all those myspace updates and the liner notes in Heretic trying to explain his vision to the ignorant. But not that many people cared to listen.

In the end the message of Morbid Angel is to be the best you can be and to tear down the walls others build around you. David's new lyrics are very much in line with that. So maybe Trey just wanted the communication to be more clear?

This is just guessing of course. But really... The lyrics on Domination (minus the political undertones) and the new ones really aren't that much out of line with the original concept of the band. They go hand in hand with Trey's own interpretation of the occult and what it's really about. Self-empowerment.

That's not original message of the band.

The band was originally (which is especially clear on FFF and GTA) not about self empowerment at all, but as they would used to call it 'being an instrument of the Ancient Ones'/living continuum (which is, in thought somewhat similar to pantheism). Being one with Universe (sure, you are empowering yourself in the process, but self is not in the focus). All that talking about Lava is that you are just energy, devoid of any ego. There is no self.

While David is all about him self (and more), in many ways like gangsta rappers are. He is actually so full of himself, that he won't even play songs from Steve Tucker era (let alone that one song, which he didn't even care enough for to actually learn the fucking lyrics!).



While we are at it, he is not self empowering himself, he's rather talking how he's empowering himself, if you know what I mean.

I keep hearing references to trey's 'out there' 'robotic' riffing. I'm very interested to see what he has in store.

If you think FFF and GTA represents the original era of the band. I don't. The message on A, B, C and D is much more about individualism. Taking control of your own existence. Not conforming to the norms of religion and the masses. Finding your own truth. That's what Morbid Angel was always about as far as I'm concerned. Trey found his truth in spirituality. Which I think is great. That's probably what I personally identify with the most. But the essence of the band has and will always be finding your own truth and the first verse in Nevermore reflects that to the fullest.

There's a lot of uncertainty because of past reviews, but non coming from me. Nevermore and Existo are great, and I'm actually very intrigued to hear the fusión of new sounds with Trey's extreme riffing!

I cringe when I hear bootlegs of Bil Ur-Sag live and Dave absolutely fumbles the lyrics. He just can't seem to nail it like Steve did (or like I do in my car )

Steve never nailed anything on Formulas. He just went woof woof really fast with close to no articulation. Sounds kinda weird in it's own way. But it's technically not a good vocal performance. Period.

F was supposed to be raw. And Trey told Steve exactly what to do.

If you've ever been a vocalist yourself you'd understand what I'm talking about. I don't have the technical terms for it. But what holds Steve's voice back is the lack throat to control his growls. He ends up wasting tons of air without creating any effect. Frank Mullen is a perfect example of how those mid-range growls should be done.

You could argue that it's "his style". But then it wouldn't make any sense that he changed (I.E. BETTERED) his technique on later recordings.

I agree totally with the perceptions of WhereTheSlimeLives concerning Tucker.
