i listened to the first song on aesthetica and went :"stroke me, for i wish to orgasm":



the vocals are terrible

the drumming is pretty pedestrian

the intro leading into the song proper was kind of neat

but they're playing black metal in major keys, which i think is interesting. it's almost uplifting, in a bizarre sense? but then the vocals turn things to shit



i think i am going to delete this eventually but i was wondering if anyone wanted to stick up for them until that happens

well i dont know anything about hipster black metal other than ive heard that as a term that people use. however this is really fucking disappointing. some of the riffs they're playing are actually quite cool, and i can certainly respect a band for trying to do new things with a genre, but they're using shoegaze & ambient production on a black metal release, the arrangements seem more or less non-existent, and these vocals are simply excruciating. if they took the guitar work on a couple of these songs and completely redid them & tried to turn them into actual songs, instead of just combinations of things that dont fit together that well, and then put someone with real vocal talent on top of that, i would be interested to hear the result. cause i really do like the idea of playing black metal-styled music in a major key. its just that these guys are not the guys to do it :looe:

i mean, fucking listen to the beginning of "generation" (if you can bring yourself to do so). they dont want to be a black metal band! they want to be djent meets the polyphonic spree. and that would be a cool thing to hear

It's an incoherent mess, and their goals are way, way beyond their abilities. They honestly think what they're doing is revolutionary, reforming the definition of black metal, etc. And that they've invented new musical techniques to accomplish this. Because Hunt Hunter-Hunting-Hendrix-Hipster decided that's what happened, and wrote a really really terrible pseudo-academic paper declaring as much.

i know you said in the other thread but i hadnt listened yet. i had to at least hear it for myself. and now it has been removed from the hard drive
