I think he only teaches English as 2nd language to foreigners, not saying it's an easy job but it's not like he teaches literature and stuff

I know a lot of musicians work in the restaurant industry because it's one of the few where you can fuck off for a couple of months to tour and actually have a job when you come back.

i seem to recall someone mentioning that he's employed by BMW, which has a major manufacturing facility right outside greenville. not a bad gig really, especially if they let him take time off for touring. which would be quite remarkable in south carolina -- it's one of the most labor-hostile states in the country, and most certainly the reason they have a manufacturing presence there.

when was a little younger i never really thought about how my favorite death metal musicians might/probably have really shitty day jobs. that really killed my dream of wanting to become a full time musician. i really wanted to become a touring death metal guitarist. i couldn't come home from a tour and go back to a miserable part-time job. i wasn't even planning on going to college until after this realization.

seems like the only way to live off your music these days is if you go down the punk route and get a share house that the whole band lives in - though you still might have to get a job when not on tour.
