hated? seems like the elitist were the whole reason these guys got popular. the only people I can even think of that hate them are a few idiots on the nile board.

oh, ok then. the reason i had that in mind was that one black metal douchebag that posted here... you know what, i cant even remember his name at the moment

, but he went on this whole tirade before about them

i don't think they're bad necessarily (its a notch above your run of the mill depression metal in my book), but terribly overhyped and not particularly interesting

Hipsters apparently made this band popular. It's the scene elitist snobs that dislike them.
Anyway, I've been jamming Diadem of 12 Stars and Two Hunters a lot recently. Good tunes.

definitely the most overhyped band in BM right now (but the award for most hated among elitists goes to either Deathspell Omega or Drudkh). i kinda dig 2 hunters and diadem once or twice every couple of months, but the last two bore the shit out of me

Hipsters made it popular here too..."hey i'm english but i got an ironic redneck moustache and wear a trucker cap and like only early mastodon, clutch and these three bands you never heard of from japan who sound like led zeppelin on heroin abusing children, i also only drink vintage bourbon, imported beers and eat sushi"
i actually quite like them despite thier hateful following.

I liked Two Hunters quite a bit, although I'd have to relisten. Diadem was okay.

fuck the black metal "elite", who cares if they mix post-rock with bm. those fools who say that wittr killed black metal needs to rethink their argument, cos weakling were doing this almost 10 years ago.

it wasn't a tour. it was a one off concert in Atlanta that was sponsored. they just happened to be on the bill (not even main stage, mind you)

you are apparently missing the point so i will attempt to state this more clearly
wolves in the throne room were sponsored by fucking toyota. if you are a black metal band sponsored by toyota, you are overhyped.
yeah it's cool to cry elitism and whatnot, but it says absolutely nothing of substance. it's like some roundabout appeal to popular opinion, as if that somehow validates anything. everyone would be better off if this retarded 'elitist' dichotomy were just abandoned, because it doesn't exist and serves no useful purpose at all.

you realize that other bands were on that bill as well, right? such as neurosis, mastodon, high on fire, kylesa, withered, krallice (ugh)...are they all overhyped as well now too? well besides krallice, who are a half-assed version of weakling.
I mean shit, you could name a thousand reasons why wittr is overhyped ("fuck hipsters" mentality, "half-assed weakling", etc etc etc) but yet you pick the one that really has nothing to do with anything (omg they were on a show sponsored by toyota). that is why I'm missing the point of your post.

the thing that I don't get is that I know for a fact that a lot of y'all liked wolves circa 2007 because you got all excited and/or pissed off that they weren't playing near you when they first started touring the US. now everybody hates them? I don't get it.
also, I listened to diadem of 12 stars and two hunters in my car yesterday and those are some damn good albums. I don't care what their personal politics are, they make good music.

those albums are win, and black cascade rapes. probably not gonna be a top 10 of the year for me but it's a good album for sure. took a couple listens for me to "get" but after that it's been all gravy

yep, surely do. neurosis for example is surely overhpyed by that standard as well, the difference is, they've actually released some quality material.
wittr would have a bit more cred in my book if they could survive on their own without living-in-the-woods-bullshit-marketing (SRSLY GUYS CHECK IT OUT WE'RE SO GREEN, WHICH IS TOTALLY IN AND THOUGHTFUL AND COOL RIGHT NOW GUYS, FOR REAL THIS IS TOPICAL AND DEEP) and deliver something more substantial than rehashing dead as dreams.
quite simply, they couldn't do that. it's all image, and all they have beyond that is a weak appeal to 'well we sound kind of somber' in order to hook the depression metal crowd. smoke and mirrors, flash, no substance whatsoever.

never even heard 'em let alone sang the praises, but if that's true i am actually kind of impressed. it takes true effort to out-derive wolves.
i am a black metal luddite. my opinion is usually easily summed up, if it's new (read: if it is the latest and greatest and teenagers are latchng on en masse), it's probably trash.

rofl I dont know about you but I certainly don't see a whole shitload of people catching onto metal in general around here, other than deathcore and the like (ie watered down core bullshit). wittr may be popular in cali or the like but certainly not on a widespread basis.
do you also dislike deathspell omega, because they're a "hipster" band too? despite producing high-quality output recently, much better than their darkthrone clone output? and much better than 99% of the disgraceful black metal scene, in general.

hahaha, this has always been one of my favorite PA's (and for what it's worth, i've owned a mac for going on 3 years now). i'm not an 'elitist' though, in any sense of the word. i dislike a lot of stuff, to be sure, but i have no delusions that doing so somehow elevates me to some upper social echelon.

Elitists hate WiTTR because they're trendy, and copy Burzum. I like Two Hunters. Their new album is horrible.
