this is a really cool track but it seems fucking slooow. like they were playing it faster and baizley kept going "no dudes lay it back some more." that riff wants a little more urgency in the tempo i reckon. i should add that i am a lil bit spoiled because this is the song they played at best friends day in VA last year and there's video of it from the meshuggah tour as well and since it's live it's a little bit more "up"



that said i am totally stoked for doubleold double album baroness porch jammery in the summer 2012 months march to the sea sounds cool as hell in that youtube clip

arghoslent - hornets of the pogrom. putting it charitably, arghoslent aren't much more than a bunch of verbose rednecks, but they do have a keen ear for crafting seriously bitchin' riffs.

clark - turning dragon

dead congregation - graves of the archangels. again, super fucking

have a nice life - deathconsciousness.

jesu - why are we not perfect?

mogwai - hawk is howling

murder by death - red of tooth & claw

that's nearly one good album per month at a minimum! that ain't too shabby, by my standards. which you all know are obnoxiously high

i downloaded it when it was released and i like it a lot. one stellar album doesn't make it a good year.

yeah, on the whole it was probably a pretty weak year by most reasonable peoples' standards. and going by mine, '07 and '09 both averaged slightly more than one good-to-great album per month, so i think we're mostly in agreement

2008 resulted in the awake EP, the white EP by agalloch, cloudkicker's first release, the bees made honey in the lions skull by earth, glowworm and god is an astronaut albums, fury & flames by hate eternal, obzen and antithesis station by russian circles, the dømkirke live album by sunn which is to fuck, and a berzerker release

This sounds like Baroness doing a The Hunter. Not exactly world shaking, but not bad. Definitely not as original as I was, for some reason, expecting.

I dont think the two bands are really that alike at all. What I was saying is that this song is a step in the direction of that album. It's stripped back, catchy, bereft of neither novelty nor elements that might make it a classic. Its alright. I'll jam it some more.

its stripped back but its no more catchy than anything on red or blue. blue is the gold standard for catchy-ass hook-laden southern sludge



i was making a more general statement about this compulsion folks have to compare baroness unfavorably with mastodon. ive seen it quite a bit on message boards & in comments on baroness' (& meshuggah's) facebook pages and the like. its an overly simplistic reading

Here's a general statement for you: Baroness+Decapitated+Meshuggah is one twistedly genius line up.

provided everything runs on schedule, decapitated is only getting a 30 minute set, baroness gets 40. meshuggah just under 2 full hours



i'd like to see baroness but $30 for a 40-minute set is kind of a massive ripoff

meshuggah are the ones selling all the tickets
