Pay what you want model for metal

Could I get some thoughts/opinions on this idea.
The idea is a website where a musician can upload their album and allow people to either download it for free or pay any price they choose. I'm pretty sure it is being done with other music but this site would be catered toward metal

hey guys i just thought of a GREAT new idea
you know how when you want to buy a book, you have to drive to the store and then find it and buy it and drive back? well, with my new idea, instead of doing that, you buy them over the internet. like, ONLINE, you buy the books, and they get mailed to you!

bandcamp has minimum prices required to buy albums
i'm talking about a model where you either pay nothing and get the album for free or pay whatever you want and it goes directly to the artist

i honestly haven't really researched this idea, it's probably already happening. i don't even know the much about band camp. a hard-on bearer at work is rebuilding a metal website he used to run and wants to explore this idea. if he does get it running he'll need people to write for the site.

if an artist on bandcamp wants to sell his album for free he just sets the price to zero. its a way of tracking sales / downloads
tons of free shit on bandcamp. and cloudkicker is the best of all
