More bands have been confirmed for the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise, which is set to sail from Miami, Florida to Cozumel, Mexico on January 24, 2011 and return four days later. A total of 40 acts will appear at the event.

SAXON will play two unique shows. One night they will perform the "Wheels Of Steel" LP in its entirety and on a different night, for the second show, they will play "Strong Arm Of The Law" from start to finish.



70000 Tons Of Metal will sail Monday, January 24, 2011 aboard the Royal Caribbean "Majesty of the Seas" from Miami, Florida to Cozumel, Mexico and will not return you to the real world for four days until Friday, January 28, 2011.



Make no mistake, 70000 Tons Of Metal is not your grandma's cruise. It's also not one of the cruises that share the ship with normal cruise guests. This is an all-ship heavy metal cruise! Can you imagine that? A whole luxury cruise ship full of metalheads? And since there is no backstage area you will have the opportunity to mingle side-by-side with the artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. It's like everyone has a backstage pass and you might even need a vacation from this vacation when all is said and done!



Ticket prices start at US$666 plus US$249 taxes and fees per person and include all on-board entertainment, all meals and non-alcoholic and non-carbonated drinks at the on-board restaurants and 24-hour room service! 75% of the cabin rooms have already been sold.

apparently the ship did sell out and they plan on doing it again next year. i'm pissed that I didn't go but I honestly couldn't afford it at the time.

that looked pretty cool actually. I would go if I manage to get a group of friends together to go with.

I've been on it and it was really an awesome expierience!

The only bad thing I have to mention is that due to the running order always 2 Bands played at the same time on different stages so you couldn't see them all (caused some hard decisions like Voivod and Obituary playing at the same time...!) and since all bands alternated their setlists (ore played songs on public demand!)you definately missed something if you decided to see every Band at least one time!



The General Atmosphere was absolutely unique, there has been no backstage area so you get up for breakfast sitting next to Marduk, lunch next to Voivod, 5' o' clock tea with Saxon's Biff , etc. ..! You permanently bumped into musicians and could talk to them in a really relaxed atmosphere, it seemed like a ship full of HM Fans with the exception that some of them were playing music!



For the concerts I've seen I couldn't name a highlight, both Voivod Gigs were excellent, Twilight of the Gods managed to transfer the Bathory Songs very well into a live situation ( a late honour for Quorthon!!!) , Sodom & Destruction gained huge puplic response ( well estimated 500 Germans on Board so homeplay^^!)! The last time I saw Trouble live has been on the Dynamo Open Air '95 ore '96 and now I saw them again in the small spectrum lounge/ club from a distance of 3 meters, it was very special! Unleashed (actually the Band that I was looking forward to the most!) had the handicap that Singer/bassplayer Johnny couldn't be on board (info about that on Unleashed.se ) so they performed as a trio playing mainly elder Stuff they haven't done since a long time as Berzerk, The One insane, Execute them all, Immortals etc. and got support by Primortal/Twilight o.t. Gods Singer Alan and Swashbuckle's Pat on the mikro for a few songs, exspecially the S.O.D. Cover of United Forces with Pat was a sheer Blast!!!! The Bay Area Bunch ( Testament, Forbidden, Death Angel, Exodus ---> FABOULUS DISASTER ) was brilliant, too !



The day at mexico was very interesting (chicas & weed ^^) and the visit to the maya temple added some adventure feeling / near death expierience to the journey since the Taxi Driver was the worsest Helldriver I met so far ( Camino al Infierno !!!)!



I definately plan to do it again if it happens, it might look expensive on first view but if you book in time you can catch a flight for a reasonable price, and beside the great music you get all the comforts of a ship cruise (all you can eat included), it's up to your drinking habbits if the trip becomes really expensive!!!!

i am glad you had an excellent time. from your report it sounds like it would be a lot of fun; certainly, the idea of attending is a lot more appealing to me now than it was like a year ago when it was initially announced. but it's still more too expensive for me, shelling out $1200 or so for a heavy metal cruise ship is just not something that's going to be happening for me anytime in the next few years.



i am also glad that you solved that voivod vs obituary dilemma correctly. i've never seen voivod but holy shit obituary has to be one of the most boring bands i've ever seen. their set was 100% identical to the live album, right down to the stage banter (right down to mentioning boston, despite the fact that they were definitely not in boston).

The lack of alestorm was a disapointment lol.

there's always next year. I plan on booking as soon as the announce the first batch of bands.
