Good dubstep

I was listening to some excision i stumbled upon earlier. Dubstep is one of the most inconsistent genres out there. Its complete shit for the most part but some of it is class. Milanese is another example of some good dubstep.

my point is that every genre is inconsistent and full of shit with a relativity small number of good artists.

it's one of those genres where, i listen to stuff people tell me is the pinnacle of the genre, and i just can't for the life of me figure out what makes it good. the only thing that stands out to me about dubstep generally is the... i dunno, signature breakdown sections/sound (like, 2:40 in that second video i guess is sort of what i'm talking about, but that's probably a bad example and i can't be bothered to find a better one 'cuz its 3am), for lack of a better phrase. it just strikes me as jarring and ugly without an actual point behind that aesthetic choice



i like a lot of electronic stuff but i just don't get this genre at all. i guess that is a sign that i'm getting old

like a lot of other electronic music, dubstep is club music, but maybe even more so than other electronic genres. you have to see it live and be ready and willing to dance, otherwise you may be missing the point entirely.

its also very closely tied to the underground psychedelic art/drug culture so being familiar with these things also helps.

well, i definitely don't dance and i'm not much for psychedelics these days so perhaps it's best if i just leave this one be
