What supposedly happened to Daray?

I tried watching their documentary about the drummer auditions for the purposes of spotting Derrek Roddy, and somehow the band managed to come off as even bigger wanklets than their fans (which is amazing seeing as how the first candidate is a DT enthusiast).

Why would Roddy feature on a Dimmu DVD?

Mike Portnoy Tapped As New Dimmu Borgir Drummer



In an exclusive announcement, ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has revealed to MetalUnderground.com that he is to be the new drummer of Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. He writes, "I’m pumped to be the new drummer for my boys in Dimmu Borgir! It will be one hell of a year, but I’ll be pushing myself in new directions." When asked for comment, Dimmu Borgir vocalist Shagrath confirmed and noted, "Mike is a logical step forward for the band."



Dimmu Borgir has had a rotating cast of drummers through their career, including Reno Kiilerich, Hellhammer, Nick Barker, Tony Laureano, and most recently Daray. Mike Portnoy adds, "I’m working on some fruital ideas for my corpse paint already. Get ready!" Portnoy is set to play with the band at their "Forces of

the Northern Night" show in Oslo on May 28th, with the backing of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and Choir. Portnoy adds that, "It will be like the time DT and I played with the orchestra at Radio City Music Hall, but this time with blast beats. Get ready, Norway!"



His time ended with Avenged Sevenfold, Portnoy’s other musical projects this year include a project with Symphony X’s Russell Allen and guitarist Mike lummo's cowtown. Also on tap for Portnoy is a project with Spock’s Beard’s Neal Morse, Deep Purple’s Steve Morse, the Dixie Dregs’ Dave LaRue, and Alpha Rev’s Casey McPherson.

So a lot of folk think it is just a joke. Any official confirmation?

I tried to find but non-other media has it in news.

it wouldn't make sense even if it were true. his playing style simply would not work for black metal.

If it were true can you imagine how much more known in the mainstream Dimmu would become.

All the extra press.. Might not be bad business wise. If it were true.

there are already well known. in fact i'd argue that Dimmu and Dream Theatre are probably about on par. it wouldn't make a difference.

the only difference is Dimmu might attract some prog heads, but that wouldn't necessarily make them more popular.

You certainly see more Dimmu shirts about. That said, Dimmu fans are probably more forthcoming with how much of a twat they are.

well, yes it would, if 'more popular' means more fans. we can safely assume there's already a population of dimmu fans, if they attract a bunch of prog fans, that increases the number of that population, so they would indeed be more popular. unless you're insinuating that adding portnoy would cause an exodus of existing fans equal to, or more than the number that would be added. which i would find highly unlikely

what I meant to saw was that they aren't gonna get more popular in the mainstream media than they already are. they may attract some more fans but there not going to become huge because they will still only appeal to metal heads.
