We see it all the time - guys who wield pointy guitars with high output pickups to play t3h br00tz for most of their careers until you suddenly see them cut their hair and are now wielding gold top les pauls with stock pups or melody makers (Carcass and Bill Steer come to mind). Do you see this happening to yourself sometime soon or maybe you are at that stage yourself at the moment.

...is this a common thing because i don't know why but i want a les paul more nowadays and less pointy guitars

yeah it already happened but with telecaster (LPs are too big for me)

I personally know a duder who wielded a Jackson Warrior for most of his time as a death metal guitarist for many bands in my local area.

He's now married with kids and he teaches guitar to 1st graders using a cream Telecaster although the brand is not Fender or Squier but Grassroots which is a subrand of ESP guitars sold in Japan.

I was the same for many, many years...then (as a long-time Washburn fan) I picked up a 1989 WP-50 off Ebay for peanuts a few years back which is a very, very good LP clone (as in Gibson's lawyers had a word with them, level of clone) and loved it; so 2 years ago I picked up a 2002 Korean Epiphone goldtop, stuck in some decent pickups (Iron Gear overwound Rolling Mill in the bridge and Tesla Shark in the neck) and it's just awesome. I still love me my 7-, 8- and 9- string bois, but there's times when you just want to sit in the garden with a beer, grab an LP and play some Gibbons/Page/Green-style BLOOZ.
