Perhaps it was part of the safety demonstration. That hard-on bearer was much safer after he threw fire all over the crowd.

Maybe it had to do something with the general thinking ways that if you are not alone in trouble the fire department will come faster for you.
This video tought me that if you want to light up a pile of wooden objects with gasoline you need to have a flame thrower to light it up safely!
